I have no axe to grind against either party as I do not shoot with the clubs involved. But it is such a shame that it has come to the state of affairs that exists now between the two clubs, as we have enough enemies without the tensions created within our sport on the subject discussed/commented upon here.
Completely agree with you on this one. No winners anywhere with this situation

You would hope not, but it is what I have heard. Clearly rumour may or may not be true

Lack of safety zone?
My understanding is that the FCSA do not have permission to use the land surrounding the range that is not owner by Nether Cassock farm as a danger area. There is a property boundary within a few yards of the thousand yard target.

I suppose the big question is have FCSA got approval from the powers that be (Scottish government, police etc) to use the land as a firing range considering the lack of safety zone?
-
I believe Terry is correct that the barrels are not serial numbered but possessing a chambered blank needs to be listed on an FAC
-
When you spin up the lighter barrel will you use another barrel extension or thread the barrel into one common extension? I look forward to being beaten by such a fine looking stick 😂

I've heard one side of the issue so I'm not prepared to take a position quite yet. All I would say is, if what has been said is true then it's a damn shame. We have enough problems with non-shooters causing grief, we should not be screwing ourselves.
Totally agree that until both sides are aired that no position can be taken, that is why I have neither named nor attempted to speak gospel regarding the matter. I am a member of the Gardner’s Range so would definitely be interested in the other parties point of view.

From what I have heard there may have been some skulduggery regarding the lease on the ground by another club. If this Is true it is very disappointing behaviour on their part.
Unfortunately they do not sound to have secured the surrounding land so may not have an adequate danger area to allow safe use of the range.
Perhaps a representative of the club in question could comment. -

Are the .224 55g Sierra number 1455??

This may be of interest, lots of information on YouTube from these guys but what strikes me is that the desert situation they have is optimal for spotting bullet strike. In the UK the wetter environment tends to kill the really helpful puff of dust. At Eskdalemuir you get almost no splash at many ranges which makes life challenging to say the least. I too am hoping to pop my 1 mile cherry this year too so all the best of luck to you!!

I'm certainly interested if Warcop will follow.
Fingers crossed. 🤞
G 🙂
Eskdalemuir would be closer that Warcop for you wouldnt it and probably less red tape to circumvent? Cleared for 50BMG AFAIK

“but was not permitted a variation due to lack of experience “
Really!! If you are a full club member then you have good reason and as you are controlled by an RCO experience should not be an issue. I would ask for the decision to be clarified in writing and run this past your shooting organisation

Do you have the base plate shell holder thingy and pilot as well ( or does it not need a pilot??)

Furyan, We (my son and I) are on 36.6g N140 with a 123 scenar. Our rifles may even have been cut with the same reamer?? 😁

I want to be able to fit it in a back pack when walking from one farm to another and also as a truck gun.
Fair enough indeed, just wanted to make sure. I have jiggled around on quickload and the 308 Win seems to be as good as anything. With around 44 g of Viht N130 and a 125g Hornady SST you will get a predicted 2600 fps for 1874 ft lbs with a 12 inch barrel. Deer legal and providing a relatively frangible bullet is chosen (such as the SST) should be effective at the more modest velocity. This load has approaching 100% load density and burns almost 99% of the powder in the barrel. The other way around this problem would be a folding stock or a ......... blaser!! Incidentally with a 12 inch barrel you may end up having to amputate some of the forend to gain enough space to moderate it! By extending a bit to 14 inches you may get away without chopping the stock and would gain a fair bit ballistically. Another option would be a single shot like a Thompson Centre which I believe is available in 308 with a 15 inch barrel that due to the short length of the action would be very short but retain some ballistic efficiency

What would you UKV chaps say was the best calibre for a short barrel (12") deer legal rifle ? the bullet must not be less than .240 inches and it must have at least 1700 ft/lb`s ME .
Is that a misprint or did you say 12 inch???? As in one foot long!!

Now sold, thanks for looking

In the stable at the moment are Bartlein, Border cut, GB Barrels cut, Sassen cut, Shilen and Lothar Walther. I am about to add another GB cut to replace the Bartlein
all of them have been fantastic, accurate and clean easily

The very best I have come across after using many soft points and conventional bullets for deer over a 20 + year period is the Barnes 130g TTSX at 3000fps. My load is 46g H4895 but I have also used N135 and N140 (can’t remember the charge weights). Very few roe take a single step and the reds I have shot have never gone far at all either. Very little meat damage either.
