  1. I have been developing an itch for an AR15 style semi auto for informal target and occasional bunny bashing. My criteria are for all metal construction, a threaded barrel with all features being functional rather than just decorative… I tried a Hammerli R1 and the fake mag release and forward bolt assist really annoyed me. Function with subsonic would be really useful
From my investigations so far the Tippman Arms seems to be ground zero but what about other brands like CMMG, Kriss, Southern Gun Company and Lantac with regards to quality, reliability, accuracy etc. Anyone’s experience would be appreciated! I probably won’t be purchasing this year but it is as well to be informed in advance.
    many thanks

  2. Pardon the slightly rude question but what sort of cost is it to set up the whole kit and caboodle? I have seen the A&D scales for £450 ish …. Is there anywhere better priced. By the time shipping and duty are paid on the V3 with thrower, what did that cost?

  3. Sounds odd, something is varying between cartridges and I can’t see how the rifle can vary that much. I would assume you have verified powder charge and seating depth are consistent and that the same batch of powder/primers are being used and that the primers are consistently seated. Any chance of magnum/ standard primers having got mixed up?  Have the cases been trimmed to a consistent length and tumbled?  Could there be media left in the cases? Are the cases new or fired more than once? Worth annealing them or have they been annealed? I have only just started out with the 6 XC but I have noticed the Peterson SRP brass seems to handle pressure better than the Norma brass.

Im not trying to teach granny to suck eggs by asking the above, but it sounds to be an interesting but frustrating problem. Hope you find an answer.

  4. Hi Jan,

there is a lot in your post. I guess the first thing is to get written confirmation of an invite to shoot deer then apply for a variation for a suitable rifle (or just borrow one of the keeper if possible). There are lots of serviceable secondhand stalking rifles out there that will get you going. How are you with recoil? The safe bet for non lead ammunition is the good old jack of all trades and master of none 308 Winchester but if recoil is an issue then 6.5x55 would be another good choice. The 308 is great as it will kill any deer at normal sporting ranges and ammo is widely available. You could probably pick up a rifle and scope for 4-500 pounds that will work fine. Something like this would be fine assuming the barrel is in reasonable condition

If the scope on it is crap then swap it for a Leupold 6x42 or S&B 6x42 or 8 x 56 which can be picked up cheaply enough like this one

a moderator is good to have and easy to find. Make sure you get a variation for one as well and check your new rifle is threaded appropriately.
Add to this a knife like a Mora (you don’t need more than a 4 inch blade for most things) some binoculars and a drag rope and you are good to go as far as equipment. Clothing wise just muted colour outdoor clothing.
It is a good idea to book on a DSC1 course to give you a level of background knowledge.

    Hope this helps

With three or 4 going private concerns cracking along quite happily;  I'm a little bemused why an unconnected admin layer is needed at all. 🤔

To act as a go between where two main players had a big falling out and to protect the competitors from one organiser, who seems to aim for nothing short of national domination of the sport displaying distinctly dubious ethics with regards to conducting business, charging competitors and running a fair competition, then taking the huff (repeatedly) when anyone points this out (often in a very humorous manner).
Is it needed? I can only answer ... do BAIRS s**t in the woods?? .... did you see what I did there!!🤣
