    Hi Srvet

Thanks for the info. My rifle has a 24" barrel its a Winchester Safari Express. According to the Barnes load data my load using Reloader 15 seems to be giving better speeds from a load that is several grains away from max.

Up to now I have only tried the rifle in practice and on paper. SA trip is off this year and given the right circumstances I may use it to cull the odd deer locally.

    Obliged

Did you get any further with this? I loaded my 375 with the 300g TSX /RS60 and got up to 2611fps when I hit the first pressure signs. Haven’t had chance to group test it yet but looks promising!

  2. I have had a 7RM for years and love it dearly. My son has just bought a 300 WSM  with the intention to use it as a hill stalking rifle and I must say I am quite impressed so far. With minimal work up we have a load for the 130g TTSX that hovers at the 3600fps mark with no pressure signs whatsoever and 0.5-0.6 MOA accuracy. If I were looking to change I personally would seriously consider a WSM.

what are the distances for the longer stages ?. i struggle to get out past 750m locally here and just looking an idea of what will be on offer

    regards

    Keith

The comps so far have been out to 1000 but no further - can’t say whether this will always be the case. As Andy said the COF is only released on the day ( which is as it should be to avoid cheating.... I’ll say no more !! 🤭)

    Hi folks,

Was wondering if this is even possible as I've got my both 9mm and 22rf pistols granted for humane dispatch, anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks

Have you had a look at the Holts sealed bid auction under section 5. There are two single shot humane killers and a selection of revolvers that could be readily converted at sensible cost. Just a thought....

Now bearing in mind Eskdalemuir is only a few degrees off the arctic circle  🐧 that would be a terrible and frankly not a very impressive sight 🤣🤣🤣

Just had a large batch of these made.

Following on from the success of my 3 port brake, I decided to design a bigger unit, and one that can also be self timed by the user. [ the 3 port has to be timed ]

After playing around with several american brakes, I had the base design sorted, and then started making alterations by experiment.

My brake has different port angles to most, as i've tried prototypes. Some could be felt by the shooter, which is not good.

This brake puts the shooter in what is effectively a triangle of calm.

It also has [like the 3 port ] active gas divergers inside the port. Rather than rely on the gas finding its own way out , as other brakes do, this slices the gas in two, and forces it out. It can actually be seen when viewing shots from the side.

The baffle angles also influence the noise. This brake doesn't sound noisy compared to the vast majority out there.

I toyed with the idea of top ports, but that can influence , not for the better sometimes.

Testing this brake on a 6XC and a .224 valkyrie this week, at 300 yards, the valkyrie's crosshairs never left the bull on an electronic target, which was quite amazing to witness. The gun just recoiled in a straight line backwards, and was similar to a spring airgun in recoil.

I have a batch in 18mm x 1 and a batch unthreaded to accommodate anything.

The brake has a rear nut which is left hand threaded.

You screw the nut up closed, then spin the brake down to the shoulder. Reset the brake square, then back the nut off, to butt against the shoulder. Spanner flats on both the nut, and brake body to achieve this.

Looks very good, how many magic beans are needed to buy one?

    Hi.

I have been using Barnes bullets for a lot if years now in my 308.

They have all been loading to be 20 thou away from the rifling and never had any problems.

I use TTSX 150 grain. with 42.5 grains  of VT140

I changed to Hornady sst bullets but I had a few beasts run about 30 yards. This does not happen with the Barnes so quickly reverted back .

Using the Barnes bullets they practically drop on the spot , at the most maybe go a few yards .

It is worth persevering with the Barnes bullets.

    Cheers

That has been my experience with them as well. Very few roe deer take a step after being hit. I have never recovered a bullet yet. Mine are from a 20 inch barrel with 46g H4895 at 3000 FPS. My sons rifle worked well at 3050fps, also from a 20 inch tube

  8. I have used this bullet quite a lot and have found the jump to lands or 50 to 80 thou to work well. I think giving these bullet a jump to lands is about avoiding a pressure spike as much as anything.  Plugging the numbers in to Quickload it looks like you have some leeway to increase the powder charge a bit whilst watching for signs of pressure. I have found good results in two 308 win rifles at velocities around 3050fps (20 inch 1 in 10 twist) so it may be that you are just off a node. Half grain increments may also be a bit coarse to identify what is going on, Personally I use 0.2 to 0.3 grain increments. It sounds like you have some chronograph data, what were the SD and ES numbers like?

I have also seen lateral displacement between different bullets, that at least in my lighter profile stalking rifle is very consistent. I put it down to differing harmonics and dont lose much sleep over it.

Sorry newbie question, but what do you use the Red dot for ?

Ive used one on my 10/22 for fast target acquisition close in, but not seen one used at distance.

High mag scopes have a very narrow field of view which makes target location sometimes slow. The red dot allows rapid alignment of the high Mag scope with the target at which point the shooter drops onto the primary scope to take the shot

I've seen several damaged bolts of late, with horrendous gas cutting into them. That bad, the only remedy is welding up.

The common denominator was Murom primers.....

Scotch....get some CCI450's, they are just over half the price of the BR4, and work better in 6.5 x 47 anyway.

How do you think the gas was leaking back to cut the bolt face? I have just started using Murom primers and find them a tighter fit in primer pockets than CCI or Federal. I haven’t seen any that have pierced so can’t see how the primer choice could cause the effect you describe unless the primer pockets were already shagged?
