I spent today at Bisley with some friends and just along from us were four blokes who were using what I thought was an AI.

The thing that made them stand out was the tripod they were shooting off.

As I have a photographic background it intrigued me to see what I perceived as a tripod with oversized legs that must have weighed ton.

Agreed it would be very useful in a hide or a snipers final firing position (FFP) but how on earth do you pack it away in a Bergen and insert yourself into a FFP with all this kit?

Curiosity got the better of me and I walked over to get a better look.

The guys introduced themselves from being from RPA (Rangemaster Precision Arms Ltd) and the tripod was nearing the end of trials.

The leg material is a British invention and the head has been changed slightly to the one in the video.

I was very impressed with it!

Very nice, neat technology but will not be cheap and probably 'its expensive and therefore better than anything else' mentality will make folks buy it :)

Have used one of these: http://www.hogsaddle.com. Which fits on any tripod and more than supports/works with a 'sniper' (yawn) rifle. Can have the same design of tripod for both rifle and binos/spotter.

The Tripod is designed by the guys at RPA/Rangemaster. Ive seen the demo version and its prety good! The legs are based on the principle of the those wrist bands you straightend out then flick over your wrist, if you remember them from when you were a kid.

I didnt ask a price but i would imagine ££££

Yep,Hog Saddle is well worth considering; remember you'll need a good tripod and head adjustable to suit your needs...all in all, it's not harris bipod cheap! Probably more a fixed position/ambush proposition than a quick deploy portable, but good.(short very stable stixs.)

My point in posting the photo was to show gizmos of the type in use with British snipers.
