Recommended Posts

i am thinking of odering a mcmillian stock for my tikka m595, is it better to get it through a dealer here or to just order direct from mcmillian in the us...

have you rang jackson's they may have what you want in stock, then get a dealer to get it you.thats what my son did and he had the stock in a couple of days

If you order direct you will pay import duty. There is no getting round it with McMillan.

There is also currently a 9 month wait.

the wait is not a problem, and i dont mind paying duty as long as i know what all the costs are up front, mcmillian gave me a price and said that that was delivery and everything, so i am not quite sure if the price he quoted would include that as well..

ive spoken too peter jackson, hes not got what i want in stock, so ive emailed my rfd the details and then hes going to send too jacksons whos then going email mcmillian to get a price to my rfd who then will give me a price, what a complete fk about..

i will try all the usual suspects on here as well, ive had a pm already off one chap on here so hopfully someone will come up with a good price..

would it help if i could get someone to pick it up from the us and bring over with them? how would i stand on taxes?

The proce quoted directly from mcmillan is always spot on from experience. It is during shipping the I

duty gets added on and is nothing to do with mcmillan.

I can't comment on having a friend bring a stock back because I have never done this.

Tax is bang on 20% + the handling charge which was £8 last time. If your cousin can bring it back at least you save shipping cost from memory that was $75!

in that case if she brought it back it would be a bit of a saving and reduce the price thus reducing the price of tax as well...sounds like a plan.....thanks

I ordered mine direct about 8 to 10 years ago. There was a waiting period, however the beauty of ordering direct is you can order exactly what you want; colour, options etc. The lady I dealt with was really helpful. I phoned initially and then followed up with emails. You can get cheaper phone calls by using a pre dial number; check out moneysavingexpert.com for details.

Hi Mate, if your cousin does the long hauls, do you mean shes a air hostess? Get her to put it in her luggage and if stopped(prob wont be) say she was having it mended!

I got my auntie to bring me an A5 back last year, saved shipping and any taxes! She has retired now which is a bugger lol

Just a suggestion - Try logging on to the 24hourcampfire.com site. They have almost continuous deals with McMillan for any stock that you wish to order. Make up the colours yourself just as you would from McM , except they have a permanent Group Order thing going which does save a bit.

The wait is the same, but I ve used them 3 or 4 times and they render great service, and will keep you advised on order delivery etc etc. I also once had a fault in a McM stock for my Tikka 595, and it was sorted very promptly.

Could you not get a British stock maker to copy/interpret the stock your wanting? Might be quicker and cheaper if it`s over £100.0 just because we live on the right side of the pond.

There is a company already doing it but they dont seem to be getting their name out there with any advertising.

I never came across anyone re-inletting or generally inletting composite stocks in the UK. I understand why, as it is an awkward Job often involving many man hours. If a rifle is to hand one can even do it with hand tools, done it many times....awkward but doable.

i found that not to be to bad once id added everything up including the taxes, it ran me at £130 cheaper than getting it from a dealer over here...

on the advice of a friend though, he said not to waste that much money on a stock...and after some thought, i now agree so will not be buying one...
