Pro Shot cleaning rods & stuff

Recommended Posts

Anyone have experience of this dealer? Pro Shot rods I've seen in N.America and heard good things about. Anyone...? Alternatively, anyone make their own cleaning rod? I can get hold of carbon-fibre rod in 4mm, might save money..

Proshot are good, as are Dewey and Tipton.

Never used the seller you mention, try Reoading Solutions or Norman Clark.

Biggest PITA is shipping a long thin bendy item in the mail without damage. Plumbing pipe is very useful!

Exactamundo! I carry rods to the range encased in small-bore alloy tubing. Both RS and SRS are within range since I get around those areas quite often and I prefer to collect in person anyway. RS don't have the ProShot rods at present (I'm ordering a bunch of stuff from them), though they have the same company's jags etc; I like the idea of ProShot's hardened steel shaft, don't like the rubbery gunge found on Parker-Hale and other brands, plus I've found PH rods inclined to be bent.

I Have Pro Shot and Tipton rods - I prefer the carbon fibre Tipton.

They flex but do not damage rifling when they contact......

Although they are more expensive, age old adage, buy once, cry once....

Yes, good point, and I too was intrigued by the idea of carbon fibre which is why I might try making my own since I can obtain the material. Steel is OK so long as it doesn't bash the bore though, and the best bore-guides for proper alignment seem to be from a guy in S.Carolina. I'll probably get one.

Hi Tony,

Another vote here for the Pro-Shot rods. I got my last one from Norman Clark when they had a stand at Bisley a couple of years back now and it's still going strong. They also make their own guides which work well. Midway UK import them too, if you don't mind a wait for the order . . . !

The ProShot rods are excellent and I got mine from Specialist Rifle Services in 20 cal. Very high quality and well made, they get delivered in a plastic tube with a long wooden beam attached to it so they dont bend in the post. Definitely worth every penny of the reasonable price they charge. I also use a 6.5mm Tipton carbon fibre rod which is also excellent and worth considering.

I was able to get a ProShot rod in 20-cal from Reloading Solutions, my favoured supplier for all things to do with reloading & cleaning. Excellent rod, very pleased with it, works perfectly with ProShot jags, patches, and a Lucas guide.

Hi Tony,

I can only echo what everyone else has said, the Pro-Shot products are excellent quality. I sell them in preference to other brands and they are the de-facto choice in the workshop. If you have any doubts about using an uncoated rod then the Tipton carbon fibre rods are an excellent substitute. Using Pro-Shot spear tip jags and patches is much quicker and easier than using P-H type jags and 'fourbytoo',
