Oly
I know you can use full bore mods on a variety of full bore calibres (within limits), but do any also work effectively on .22lr too?
Zaitsev
lost volume tends to be too large. Tried a T4 on my .22 and it was no quieter than my SAK (MK1 E.A.R)
baldie
Not a wise move using a fullbore mod on a .22lr. A .22lr discharges unburnt powder with every shot. This sits in the mod, and gets mixed with wd40 etc. When its then put back on a fullbore, it can ignite, and blow up. Peter Jackson will now not sell a fullbore mod to anyone who mentions its for a .22lr.
Oly
Fair do's, thought something as much, just wasn't sure if there was any exception to the rule available. Cheers, Oly
tulkyuk
I presume the ones that can be stripped and cleaned would be ok, as long as you did so before or after calibre change.
baldie
yes that would be fine Tulky. However, the law of diminishing returns rears it head with a moderator that is too large. Too much volume can be counter productive. A mod has to have sufficient volume to absorb the gas, but not too much volume, otherwise it doesn,t "work" the mod. A good example of this is most .22 mods are fine on a .22, but the slim ones struggle on a .17 hmr. You need to go to something the size, and volume of a SAK to absorb the larger cartridge. Oly
So Baldie, is it dangerous, effect the POI, or does it simply not provide that great an effect of sound moderation? Not just for rimfire v centrefire but also whether a 308 mod would work (albeit not as quiet) on something like a 223?
Alycidon
I have listened to a 30 cal mod on the end of a 22.250, still has a healthy bark to it. A
