jimbob123
Hi folks I'm looking to get set up for nighttime bunnies on my .22LR. I'll be using subsonic ammo, which is quite loopy, and with distance hard to judge at night, I'm interested in a NV scope with inbuilt LRF and ballistics calculator. Something like a DS35 or ATN X-Sight. I'll use the same gun in daytime. The design of the DS35 worries me, in that I'll catch the eyeballs on the top on a branch or something, and the ATN-X-Sight is £1149, so serious decisions to be made (and stuff like Thermion is out of my budget). SO...for anyone here who pops bunnies at night with a LRF NV scope....do they really work as well as the marketing would suggest, with a "secondary reticle" based on ammo BC and distance? Or are they gimmicky? And if they are good, whch make/model would people recommend. Many thanks Jim
Richiew
This is my main reason for using the 17 hmr with a drone pro . Staying a bit further away from the rabbits and picking them off at 100 yards. Pulsars have a first focal mildot ret that could be calibrated for the loopy trajectory and the older pulsars should fit the bill or Yukon units. cheers
Richiew
N450 lrf pulsar £999 pard rear add on with lrf would keep your aim points and much cheaper. both at Utting’s
jimbob123
I’m was tending away from the HMR due to the noise; I have a very loud .223 and a very quiet .22 FAC PCP and I’m hoping the .22LR (not bought yet) will be more like the PCP for noise. Richiew
Definitely quiet 22 . But often the loud hmr can do a great job. Yes it’s noisy but the rabbits don’t always know where the noise comes from so they just carry on as normal. And it can take care of a close fox too . Richiew
Defo go for the 22 lr , with good subsonic ammo and known distance it does a great job. Once the rabbits get wary of what s happening the n use a hmr and keep a bit further away. Wonder if the quiet 22 s thump into the ground of the bullet makes them run for cover against the fact that the hmr noise covers the noise of the bullet striking the ground and they’re left thinking, what’s that about?????. Every calibre is a tool to do a job. Pick your tool to suit the conditions. cheers
