munkjack
Hi all apologies in advance if this has been covered before I did quick search and couldn’t see anything. Im in the market for a .22lr semi auto for shooting timed stages. Here’s the thing it needs to be reliable!! I’ve owned a semi custom 10/22 before and I was very underwhelmed! It was very fussy with ammo and it didn’t group very well either. Although I have seen some videos of Kidd 10/22 and they seem to shoot well with most ammo! Can anyone make some suggestions the rifle will need to reasonably accurate but most of all reliable. Cheers in advance!

Webley
Your budget and how serious you are is going to guide you quite a bit. At the low cost end there is The M&P 15/22 and you can race it up at https://magload.co.uk/ with competition go faster bits. Some don't like the polymer receiver set, but there is not anything wrong with it. Many comps have been won with them. If you want to go metal AR then see below. L119A22 - cheaper option. https://www.cotswoldclassicarms.co.uk/product-page/l119a22 Battle Arms - more expensive option. https://www.cotswoldclassicarms.co.uk/product-page/battle-arms-development-authority-elite LASF15 - cheaper option https://www.lannertactical.com/la-sf15-22lr-semi-auto-ar15-rifle Raven - more expensive option https://www.lannertactical.com/22lr-stealth-raven-ar15-rifle I would go along to a club that supports the discipline and most people will let you have a look at theirs so you can hold the different options and chat to owners before you buy or order anything. Be aware there will be a long wait for the metal options listed above. Secondhand is an option as well of course and it saves the waiting aspect. You will need to do specific safety course before you can compete in these disciplines FYI. Matt

I live in the Cotswolds and have been shooting in one form or another for 35 years I’ve never heard of costwold Classic arms I’m guessing it’s an RFD that runs the business from home? They sound very interesting I will give them a call. im a member of club that runs a precision 22LR course and I am yet to attend one of there PRF days I am regular on the ranges and have spoken to a few of them. One mentioned the MP But I don’t mind spending a bit more if there’s a more reliable option. Pete.

roohunter
Hi There I have a Walther GSP and have to say it's the most accurate 22 semi i have owned. I have previously owned a full Volq 10/22 which was good, but not as accurate. Best regards

Marling spike
Or a S&W mp15-22 if you’re not concerned about metal receivers and upgrading too much
Marling spike
The stribog is actually the best of the lot as regards function and reliability now they have sorted the magazines but not to everyone’s taste

munkjack
Pick this one up a couple of months ago, it took a bit of sorting to get it shooting reliably as the previous owner had put an aftermarket trigger in it and I was getting light strikes and the occasional jam. I sorted the jamming out easily by doing the recommended ejector tweak. The light strikes took a bit of sorting as at first I changed the fireing pin for Volquartsen one this was slightly better but the rifle was ammo fussy, so looked again and found that magload do an over sized pin specifically for this issue and I’m pleased to say it now runs perfect even with sub ammo. what’s annoying is the Volquartsen one was twice the price of the magload and had to be shipped from the states by brownell’s. so if anyone wants one for their 15-22 I now have one for sale.
