Starting to understand why people like hollow points

Hi folks,

I think I'm starting to understand why people like HPBT bullets for target shooting.

Load is for "longer range" plinking with my CZ527 1:9" barrel

Ramshot TAC

Hornady ELD - M 73 gr (So at the edge of the twist rate limit)

Left hand round is loaded to about 20 thou off lands to start load development

Right had is what will run through my magazine...

Maybe it's time to try a 69gr HPBT if this doesn't work...

Also, can you still get a single loading "sled" for the CZ527?

So...... Why aren't you developing a load that fits in your magazine from the onset? I am one of those philistines who loads to SAAMI or data-specified lengths all the time. I could not tell you the distance to the lands of any of my rifles yet my loads are accurate.~Andrew

(I also shy away from tipped bullets)

Andrew,

there is a very long and convoluted answer to that question. The short answer is: I drank the cool aid...

I encountered the same thing with 90grn sierra game king vs 90grn sierra tipped game king both fit the magazine. The tipped version version had to be seated rather deeper. What the distance to lands was i haven't a clue i don't worry about such things , my only concern is mag  fit or not being jammed into the lands. Both loads shot accurately . Does the shorter cartridge shoot to your needs?

It happens. I was a confirmed "lander" (measuring distance from the lands) for many years but I got away from it after I stopped competition shooting. My loads will shoot as well as I can hold, generally.~Andrew
