foxynick
Does anyone know if I need to get a qualified electrician to inspect and give a certificate if you install electricity supplied from a generator ?
RickB
Hi there. If your generator is a back up supply to an installation which is already connected to the public network then yes. Section 55 of the IET regs (18th edition) is the source of guidance. If the genny is the only source of supply then the operator must ensure the safe automatic disconnection of supply. Again section 55 applies. If you're not sure, then seek out the opinion of a professional sparky.

Is this a temporary movable generator or a fixed off-grid supply? A sensible person would ensure it's safe by taking advice and possibly tested certification

Yes. There's very little electrical work that can now be done without it being tested and certified. You run the risk of invalidating any house insurance that you have. What I have done in the past is undertaken domestic electrical work and then paid for it to be tested. Regards JCS
