7mm Bolt Face Question

Just a quickie. Will the Barnard P action currently on my .284 Win rifle be OK for a 7 mm SAUM?

I think the simple answer would be no, as .284Win uses a standard .473" bolt face whereas the SAUM series require a .534" magnum size bolt face. However it might be possible for the bolt head to be reamed out to .534" but don't hold me to that, otherwise it would require a new bolt.

Sadly, no.

 

The SAUM and WSM short magnums have a 0.534-5" dia. rim whilst the .284 uses the 'standard' 0.473". Ask Dolphin Guns for the cost of a replacement bolt and/or see if anybody has a spare example, more than a few having both sizes to allow a magnum + non-magnum switch-barrel setup.

Had the same situation with a .284 barrel and standard bolt. Now my P action has a second bolt with a magnum bolt face for 7BM.

 

Here, the bolt also requires a serial number for an additional entry into the firearms license but Mik sorted it out with Barnard.

A spare bolt, or get your case rims rebated to fit the old bolt face
