foxyloxy
Hi folks. I just collected my new to me 260 Ackley last weekend & I need to look about a new powder. the previous owner had a pet load of 48 grains of RL19 under a 140gr Amax. First impressions are its a damn accurate recipe. Problem is it looks like RL19 is about as obtainable as unicorn tears. Can anyone suggest a suitable more readily available replacement please? A lot of dealers over here are talking about Vectan. Thanks in advance. FL

FL Hi I was told the same that vectan powder would be available in N.ireland as it was declassified I was going to give it a go but there's very little data on loads for it, I posted on here about it and it looks like nobody uses it I was lucky enough to pick up 2 tubs of v140 last week so won't be giving vectan a go in the near future. phaedra1106uk
N550 or AA4350 has the same burn rate, for Vectan powders RL19 sits between Tubal 5000 (slightly faster, same as Reloader 17) and SP11 (slightly slower).

foxyloxy
Back again peeps. Rather that starting a new thread, I thought I would carry on with this one. I was chasing my tail, trying to get a replacement powder that was in stock locally. I eventually got my hands on Viht N160. No doubt some will say Id have been better with this powder or that powder, but It was the closest powder burn rate to the Reloader19 that I could find. Now trying to find load data for N160 and 140 grain Amax in a 260 Ackley is another issue. The Lyman manual suggests a max load in the standard rem260 chamber as 41.5 gr of 160. I read somewhere that for the Ackleyised version I could start with that and slowly work up. What would be the general consensus on this? All help appreciated folks. Many thanks. FL The advice I had on the 243 Ackley was similar. Start close to the top end of the std round and work carefully up. N160 and N165 have both worked well in my std 260 Rems. The following forum might be a good place to post a question or two re the 260 Ackley - http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?board=7.0 Regards JCS
