Ronin
If it is nylon, you could make pillars and epoxy them in, but im not sure: a, epoxy would stick. b, the nylon is too flexy to bother in the first place. c, you would benefit due to B. I would save your money on this one john.... I have seen nylon stocks strengthened with layers of carbon fibre, but its the time, cost, what benefit thing again.... nuttyspaniel
Ronin cheers, its a pity as it shoot really well but I think its got more to offer and did think that would be a step in the right direction.
ejg223
John, epoxy will stick fairly ok to nylon & glass it also sticks fairly well to the glass polyprop howa stock for some reason. (I think after sanding the glass peeks out and acts as a key) Doesn't stick too well to rem sps stock. To find out what your stock is made of, cut a sliver off one of the ribs and light it, extinguish and smell. If it smell like a candle epoxy won't stick (Polyprop) too well. If it smells like burnt fishing line it's glues better. I've bedded an original plastic SHR stock in 270, works a treat. Bedding is only loaded on pressure, if you don't dismantle every day even a polyprop stock can be bedded. In your shoes I would. Pillar bed that stock. Roughen up well and relieve the forend to at least 2mm clear around the barrel. Give it go yourself, some of us can guide you through. edi
nuttyspaniel
Edi I thought I read in a previous post you did a shr, but did it look like that internally? And when you say open the barrel channel you are refering to the "ribs" that are seen in the second photo the sides have plenty room.
ejg223
Can't remember, but the rear tang had two pieces that I both bedded. First was a round piece sat in stock then the action went into that. If I remember right. You forend will still be flexy so before bedding check or shape the channel (ribs and all) so that it has the gap of about 2mm. especially up front. Put the rifle together and try prone with bipod if you can press the rifle so that the barrel might touch the stock. If this happens very easy you need more gap. A mate can help with the piece of paper in the gap. edi your stock look like this?

ejg223
I think the main problem was that the stock had nice bit of play in the action area. If the rifle got a bang the rifle could move in the stock and touch the barrel. We just bedded it, no pillars. This keeps action and barrel in place. Bedded lug area and the tang area. edi
