Making a Hornady Type modified case.....

Jamie

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I've got a Hornady Depth Gauge, with a modified .223 brass case.

I wouldn't mind having a go at modifying a case for my .204 Ruger. Granted the modified cases don't cost a lot, but it's more a case of achieving something than just throwing a few quid at it....

I'm hoping as the .223 Is similar to the .204 they should need similar adjustments?

However, I'm finding it difficult establishing some dimensions.

Although for what it's worth, I've established a push bike hand pump adapter valve, (The car variety) fits the male gauge threads a treat!

Joke and apart, to be exact, I need to know the thread size and pitch of the tap I need to modify the case internally, and what drill bit I need to use before tapping.

Any constructive advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Jamie

They are in Torquay.

The guy is really helpfull ,they are an engineering co but he will know exactly what you want.

The thread is: 5/16x36 UNS yes UNS I'd never heard of it.

It is difficult to hold the case to drill and tap if you PM me your E-mail address I will send you a pic of what I made up.

Have fun

Steve.

I use a base plate drilled and tapped to accept a chuck from a battery drill, put the case in the (upside down) chuck. And drill with a pillar drill. I drill the case then put the tap in the pillar drill and turn by hand.

Yep I know it's a case of a sledge hammer to crack a walnut, they are only about a fiver to buy or Spud will do them for free.

But it's satisfying, and I'm also using cases fired in their chambers.
