Finishing a McMillan gel coated stock

Recommended Posts

Just revieved my Mc M stock from USA. I'm in the process of sanding, pillar installations and bedding it now. It requires a little cosmetic work to remove light scratches, raised seams from the mould. The gel coat is 1-2mm thick depending on area. I'm planning on cutting it back with fine W&D then perhaps finishing with a light cutting compound. Anyone tried and tested any techniques to improve the finish before I start?

Thanks

Si

Just out of curiosity, what is the reason for doing this?

Surely it will "shine" more when shooting g in sunlight? Only reason I ask is that I once sold a rifle to someone for stalking and he did exactly what you are talking about - couldn't fathom out the reason?
