Offroad Gary
Does anyone know if a 22-250 round will feed in a 590 action from a .243 mag? Im going to buy a 5 shot mag for a the rifle and shoot light 22-250 bullets (40gn/50gn) but might want it re barrelled to .243 in the future, and would buy a .243 mag now if it works. I won’t want it re barrelled in 6br before anyone asks, not enough whizz bang for me! Also, anyone got any spare mags they want to sell?
DW58
Hmmm ... ... ... difficult one. From memory .22-250 has a tapered care whilst .243 is straight, just not sure if it would work. Head diameters are around the same I think.
Tuck
I'm not sure if it will work as already mentioned, the taper is different and the 595/590 mags have the block at the rear. On the 22-250 mags
Sherlock
Yes it absolutely will - no question about it.
Finman
It absolutely does. My rebarelled M590 started as a .22-
Offroad Gary
Got the rifle and .243 mag yesterday, feeds perfectly. Had 2 foxes last night with it. The 40gn vmax out of the 22-250 is pretty useful..
Akeld
Whats the load you're using for the 40g vmax Gary, never got on with them through mine, thanks
Offroad Gary
39.4 gn h380, shoots .3"@100m. Havent chronied yet. Will push it up to 41 when I get chance to see if it holds accuracy, rifle is purely a point/shoot truck gun, wearing a 7x50 scope.
JB1
Blimey 39.4 x H380 that's shifting, ide hazard a guess at around 3900. 41 x H380 will be doing over 4000. Dont comprises accuracy for speed though.. Saying that I'm getting 3670 from 55 noslers. With h 380.

Another 200 fps won't add much positive-especially in a truck rifle format/use-maybe trim a 1/2 inch of 300y drop--price of course is wear, and maybe loss of accuracy, which is far more critical......as advised above..... gbal
Offroad Gary
I want the wear, bring it on! Rifle was bought from a keeper friend as shot out, a quick visit to a shed took 1" off the barrel and target crown, new m14 thread. It went from >2moa to sub .5 moa instantly (Andy strikes again!).. When ive burned the tough little bugger out it can go back and have a LW fitted...
Offroad Gary
Just chronied it, first thoughts surprisingly low at 3546 fps. Barrel is 21.25", when i run basic interpolation for 39.4gn and reduced barrel length against 24" book data, its actually not that bad, perhaps the classic h380 is better suited to the classic 55gn pill? Will push it up in near future. Shot a few rooks, rabbits and 4 foxes last week, the 40gn vmax is not expanding like i would have expexted on the smaller stuff! Still, i got a box of 250 to play with! Anyone wanna run quickload for me? See what i should be getting with 41gn h380?? My basic math says 3690 at best. tackb
You can get 3600 from a 223 with 40g pills , I'd want to see more from a 22-250 ?
Sherlock
You can get 3600 from a 223 with 40g pills , I'd want to see more from a 22-250 ? I agree, well under the velocity I would want out of such a high performance round. I have had several 223's that can attain velocities around 3800 fps with no issues. Over the summer months I have been using 40 Grn Noslers over Vit 133 - 3780 fps with no pressure signs. My old 22.250 will top 4300 fps with no problem ... Incidentally, the fastest velocity for a 40 grn bullet on Hodgdons website is 4,328 fps with CFE. And these are very safe loads. S

Fag packet maths works, 41gn h380 chronied at 3693 this morning. Might have to move to the varget!!
