Chris-NZ
Here's a red that a shooting friend Paddy knocked over recently. He lives in a rented house on a farm 30mins Sth of here. I'm often there and on the three adjacent farms doing some varmint shooting. The farmer told him about a decent stag he'd seen several times. It'd been living for a couple of years in a heavily wooded creek bed that runs though part of the farm. Paddy has been keeping an eye out and recently discovered the cast antlers from last year- a nice 12pt rack. After about ten attempts searching for it, he ran into it right on dark a few Sundays ago. It was out with six hinds and three young stags. A 7-08 through the boiler room did the biz. He hasn't got the loot to have it fully mounted so will simply do a Euro mount. That's Ian (my gunsmith buddy) posing with it to give it some scale

trucraft
Very Nice head that. Not many wild beasts get to that size any more.
Chris-NZ
Yeh, not many go 14 in the wild as it's open season here 365 days/yr. This animal is probably the offspring of an escapee from a deer farm. There's one not too far away and the area it was shot in is the best cover for miles. Great feed there too. I've often looked at it and thought it was good deer country.
