bradders
Make sure he has the relevant calibre slot on his FAC, then write in the details of make, calibre and your name and address etc. Then send his plod an email to notify them you've sold him said firearm. Send the new owner a copy and BCC yourself in too. Where possible ask for read receipts from the recipients. Tell the new owner to notify the plod as well. If you don't want to email them, just send them a recorded delivery letter, but email is better

eddieb
I thought that the seller should inform his police licensing department of a sale or disposal of a weapon. Then the buyer should send information to his authority that he has purchased the same weapon. One of our local RFDs on sale or purchase supplies a letter for the customer that just requires a signature before sending.
GP1
Easiest way is to both seller and buyer to fill one of these out then either email it or post it to your firearm department. http://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/OnlineServices/ApplyFirearmsCertificate/documents/transfer.pdf
Mattnall
As Bradders said but (as eddieb said) you, as seller, also have to notify your own police FEO as well (if different from the buyer's) to get the slot removed or re-issued.
