furrybean
Im getting this rifle sorted and I know they are a tight tolerance action but when cycling it, it keeps binding unless I pull back close to the bolt and keep the stroke completely parrallel to the movement of the bolt - if that makes sense. Ive oiled it well but is there anything I can do to help it?
terryh
Somethings wrong there! My BAT is 'tight' (prefer 'closer toleranced' ) but runs smooth even if I hurry, does not need any special treatment, It pulls the 7mmSAUM rounds out of an Alpha mag with no problems. Are there any rub marks or obvious wear points? What does your Smith say??
furrybean
Steve Bowers did the work for me. He said make sure you cycle straight back and the oil has filmed all round the bolt so there arent any binding points. It might just be "newness" lol
Danpd
If the action was bead/vapour blasted then sometimes this can alter the smoothness of the bolt cycle until it 'beds' in again.
furrybean
Cheers Paddy, So just keep on cycling and it will bed in again??
Danpd
Yeah, keep a thin film of grease on it, and just cycle it.
The Gun Pimp
I have a VR - and yes, it's a close fit - too close maybe for a tactical-style rifle but I wouldn't describe it as tight. Take the spring and pin out of the bolt and you should be able to feel if there is a tight spot and where it is.

When I put the pin back though the bolt needs to be located down with some very slight resistance and doesn't spring down. Just thinking if I leave the bolt half cocked I could get a face full of bang!
