bradders
1:9 twist barrels shoot 75's just fine. Berger and JLK designed their 75 VLD's to shoot through a 9 twist and A Max's and Hornady's 75 HPBTM work equally well
varmintexpress
just out of interest have any of you chaps got a 1 in 9 shooting 50's and 55. and 45's? if so what sort of velocities and accuracy results are you getting.
MrCetrizine
I tried 52gn A-Max in my 1:8. Got 3250fps with 25gn of Benchmark. At 100m they went through the same hole. 0.25 MOA at 200m then it opened up rapidly beyond 300m.

gbal
Tisme/MrC We have 1/9 69 and 75 ok to 750 1/8 75 800 1/12 55 750 1/8 52 200 .25 moa, then 'opened up' at 300 It might be,for all except the 52g,that wind just overcame stability etc around 750 -have you any data on performance on wind free days (as if !) or very gentle wind at 750.It's also possible of course the bullets just run out of velocity-or both! Gbal You could be right they might just run out of velocity and tumbled. On the Sunday after the RRC1 i tried to shoot out too 1000 yards. The 55 gr v max were all around the gong but not on it.I don't think it was the wind as the splash was random. My ballistic app put them well under supersonic at 900 yards
MrCetrizine
I think the problem with lighter bullets with a fast twist is they lack the weight to keep the fast spin rate. Once they slow even a little bit, they begin to destabilise. In a slower twist the change in spin rate is slightly less as they lose momentum as it was slower to begin with.
