What would you buy ?

I am looking to invest into a new venture. Designing certain products for re-sale. Now with the wife into horses and seeing the gadgets they buy I have a good idea what I’m going to start with. I would also like to look into shooting products as well.

Does anyone have any ideas for what can be made and would sell well in the Uk ?? Any ideas welcomed.

Ok, maybe that was a bit vague, As far as skills go i do not have any in this line of buiseness, however all of the work would be out sourced to fabrication companies that specialise in what ever that product may be. The supplier i am speaking with just now is a specialist with most things fabric. Leather, canvas, neoprene etc....

For now i would be starting with them so looking for ideas that are made from fabrics.

I'm in the market for a good split rifle sling, over both shoulders, not too bulky, silent. Only seems to be a couple on sale in UK.

Thanks Tru-craft,

That is a good one and something i have been looking at. I bought one years ago made from leather. The company i got it from stopped doing them so yeah that one is a good start.

What colour leather would you think ?

Thanks again

Another idea i am toying with was a moderator holder. All of my mods have been getting marked either in my gun bags or in the ammo safe. Something like a glasses case but bigger and made from leather ???.

Chestnut/ Cognac tan.

leather is heavy but will slip off the shoulder quicker when you need to take a shot.

It doesn,t matter what it is, stick to one unfaltering principle.

The product must be well made, and do the job it was designed for unfailingly. If you come up with that, whatever it is will sell, and continue to sell.

The shooting world is full of people who think they can get rich quick by ripping off other peoples ideas and producing something cheaper that doesn,t work.

Quality sells, cheap tack junk doesn,t.....not for long anyway.

Good luck with your venture. Do your homework however. People say there aren,t many slings about. Have a look online.....there are literally hundreds.

I ordered a single point tactical sling from the states last week....there were dozens to choose from, and that is a specialist sling.

Dave,

I could not agree more, what ever it is i go with will be something that will last. There are companies out there that have designed great products only to fail by using crap materials & suppliers making the product un reliable. Take butler creek covers as an example, they are a good design and work well. A crap manufacturer with substandard materials makes them a product that doesnt last. Bad news travels fast and before long the word gets around.

I agree but the resulting product must be at a price people are willing to pay. As an example, I make high quality leather goods anything from key fobs to saddles. I used to make hand stitched, made to measure bridles. go out to the yard measure the horse come home spend a day, sometimes 2 in the workshop making it then go back to deliver it and make sure customer happy. needless to say I haven't made many recently despite the end result being top drawer and I made less than the minimum wage doing it. Now I could cut corners but I won't and I find other markets instead. unfortunately price ALWAYS comes into it. Good luck with your venture and if you think I can be any help drop me a pm.
