6.5x47 Lapua

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of changing to this caliber for Deer, Fox and a bit of longer range varmint shooting to around 500 yards max.

What do you guys think...........is there a better caliber maybe a .260?

Your comments would be much appreciated.

I don't have experience of the .260 Tony but I am using a 6.5x47 which I love. So far I only use it for varmints and targets. I love the brass and I found the calibre easy to get shooting well. Good expected barrel life too is always a bonus on a varmint gun. :)

Good round

hd one for 2-3 years and built several more, every one is a shooter.

Using 123 / 120 grainers its an excellent long range round.

All applications - target, vermin, deer. The calibre does it all in a compact package.

Brass is expensive, reloading it is not.

Good summary- what's not to like about it other than the brass cost but it lasts well and is top grade.

I have a whole range of calibres but from the experience with my Lapua, I'd choose that cartridge if I was ever forced to have only one centrefire for varmints-deer.

Considering people generally class 243 as underpowered for reds, how does this fair?

I have a .243 sako and wondered when it comes to re-barrelling whether to look at changing it to this.

What's the advantage either way when compared to .260 ?
