    PbG,

Are irregular meplats an issue by using, what appears to b a 'flat', on the nose of the dial gauge ?

terry I know you're going to see your error the minute I post this, but the meplats are inside the comparator, the flat nose makes contact with the base of the bullet.

I honestly think this probably the best way to measure bullets base to ogive and the lift arm gives it great  consistency combined with ease of use and speed.

  2. Nice, I did pretty much the same thing only I purchased all the components, I really wanted the lift arm but couldn't find anything to fit onto my dial indicator.

My one gripe with the comparators is if the bullet isn't sitting completely central it throws  the measurement out, I would like to see higher sides on them.

Mine largely sits dormant now as I load for to many calibers.

no response as no proof any thing was shot ,passed on to rural crimes to look into ,some time!!

They are shooting dangerously onto ground that they don't have permission for and they are doing this from a public byway, if that isn't good enough reason then I don't know what is.

Elwood - apologies I should have given more context. Having searched the internet/ powder sites, accurate shooter, full bore, shooters forum, target rifle, etc I had a long list.

Some  RS62, and N165 on its way to me with RL23 on backorder.

Appreciate everyone's help and real-world advice.

Good choices Mike, let us know how you get on.

  5. I believe he meant for shooting at targets not actual target shooting ie at Bisley .

Reticle  choice would be my main concern, small and uncluttered is good. For pin point accuracy I have used nothing better than the Nightforce NP2DD or the March MTR 2

  6. I'm using the one from Magneto speed. It won't pump as much air as the one above but for its size it packs a punch ( Match box size) and it's very convenient to have in my kit bag.

I only ever use it testing loads, I have my Labradar screen set to black out after 1-1/2 mins and use the cooler between every shot, and after 2 groups I give the barrel a 10 minute rest with the cooler running.
