A little off topic but then I did start the thread.
On a standard day on wind etc etc how much point of aim difference would .5 grns of N140 in .308 make at 100 yards

I have an RCBS 10-10 beam scale in perfect condition if you would be interested in it? I think £85 +p&p is fair. I use a laboratory scale now.
I have the original box and instructions etc.

That look like the way to go

Now that is a good idea especially as my eyesight is getting a bit old these days.

Hmm old school or new gadget decisions decisions.

The trouble is you have mentioned an electronic Scales now which has thrown me off track and I will get carried away, so although I still leaning towards a beam type is something like the Lyman gen 6 worth a look at.

Thank you for the offer I will do some research on it and let you know.

Hello all
I am looking for a new powder scale as my old Lee scales are ok for .44 mag loading but I want something a bit more refined for reloading. 308.
I would prefer a balance beam type, so do you have any recommendations.

No, remove it after you've finished sizing the brass, before priming.
Ok I shall do it that way next time .
I have only loaded 357 and 44 in the past so no lube was needed

Hello all
I have just finished my first lot of .308 home loads and have 1 quick question.
Do you remove all the case lube from the brass when you have finished.
I did make sure the inside of the necks were cleaned before seating the bullet.
Cheers Mark

I have made some now and work well.

The Now Foods lanolin is the stuff I use, just warm it up first (I put it in my pocket for a bit to get to body temp) and it'll pour OK, if it's cold it'll be a bit thick.
5Lt of alcohol - (use the above links or stick this number into the eBay search box; 221251615194)
Mix the above with 2 of these;
192610610407
and you'll have the correct proportions at about 21:1.Pour/mix in one of these (173353480609) and you're good to lube.
Or make it in small batches and keep the alcohol bottle sealed as it might evaporate over time.
Thank you I shall get some ordered

A good way to reduce recoil is to fit a moderator if you have a screw cut barrel although you need to get one on your ticket first

but you can normally find Lanolin in health food shops
Really is a great case lube
Thank you for the links, what did we do without amazon.

I haven't bought any commercial lube for a long while now, I make it 100% lanolin : propan-2-ol (99.9%) in the ratio between 1:20 and 1:25. Let the alcohol evaporate and you're good to go, smells nice too (don't sniff it, it'll make your eyes water!)
If you want to make it, one 5lt can of alcohol and two small (118ml?) bottles of 100% lanolin will give a near lifetime's supply at approx 1:21 ratio. Just need a small spray bottle to apply. Do try to get the liquid lanolin rather than the wax as it's easier to mix (especially if you keep the bottle in your pocket for a bit before trying to pour it out).
Ok that doesn't sound like to much hard work where do you get the alcohol from and do you need a special spray bottle to handle it

buy a carbide sizing die and remove the need for putting lube on and cleaning it off perhaps?
That is ok with straight wall cases like my 44mag as I use lee carbide for those but I read that with bottle neck cases lube was still needed but I could be wrong

Imperial Case Sizing Wax works well for me - I also keep meaning to make some of the "Dillon type" spray lube, which is an alcohol liquid mixed with lanolin.
I was thinking of making the home lube up but my life is busy enough as it is at the moment so I think I will try one shot for a start, reloading my 44 mag is a lot simpler
-
Has anyone used one shot case lube for full length resizing on 308 and is it any good

I have had the GT sonic 3 litre for a couple of weeks and it seems to do the job but as I haven't had one before I have nothing to compare it to.
The only thing I will say is it's called 3 litre but it only takes 2 litres of fluid

Nice. What scope are you getting.
Thanks nick
I will probably go with a SWFA SS10x42. as I want a fixed power and it has good reviews in my price range
