I've just finished doing both on-line assessments,  the questions were quite different (and RCO was hard!)

Thats interesting.. On the RCO course I did ( Oct 22) the first thing we were told was to relax, you're all RSO's so you've done the hard bit.

(given the option I would take a classroom test over on-line any day!)

  2. I've just done the RCO course at Bisley having previously done the RSO course and there was no overlap in sylabus between them.

RSO 2 days classroom and practical, obviously all about how to be safe.

RCO 1 day. all classroom primarily about how to fill in forms and keep the MOD happy with a bit of HME stuff included,

So to a newbie having to do the RSO renewal makes sense.

  3. So Ive picked up a Riton 5-25 X5 for my 300PRC, and so far very impressed. I took it to Bisley for the first time this this morning, and Im delighted to say it fixes the 2 main issues I had with my rather early vortex viper. It focuses close enough so I can see the HME target clearly, and on a 30MOA rail its got enough travel  down to set a 100 yard zero, and then elevation to reach out to a mile.

  4. Just got this from my club...

As you may be aware by now, the NRA are working on issues surrounding 6 breech explosions over the last 5 years.  They are clear that in almost all cases it involves hand loaded ammunition and that they intend to add re-loading as a skill to the Shooters certification card from January 2024.

No more info than that Im afraid.

  5. What I did was, buy a set of calibration weights. 1 to 10 grams say should cover most common loads. Ask someone with an A&D FX xxxx  to check them. Then buy 2 or 3 drug dealer/jewelry models off Amazon. Check them with the weights to see if they are accurate at a known temp and use them.

This is what I do,  I have a Lyman gen 6 powder measure (as Im lazy) but once it done its stuff I'll double check every 5th load on the other scale just to be sure.

I tried adjustable rings first when I shot at 300 yards. Worked ok, but a fair bit of work and test firing to set up for one specific range. Then I tried a budget adjustable rail and didn't like it. Then I got a MOAB that cost nearly as much as the second hand CZ.

The MOAB allows me to practice at 100 or 200, then crank up the elevation to further out on a range.

    Regards

    JCS

Ive got a CZ457 I'd only use for Long range, and I'm not a competitive person, so with hold over I guess  the idea is to work out the minimum range I need to shoot, (100y) and find a sloped rail that allows me to do that and hope the scope can cope with 500y.

  7. I shoot my 6.5CM out to 1200 at Bisley no issues, However I guess it depends how far you intend to go?

I have a major itch to ring steel at 1 mile, so Ive also got a 300PRC. If I had of had a .223 that would get out to 800 I might have skipped the 6.5cm and gone straight to magnum. Other thing is I hand load everthing so Im afraid I have no idea on the avialability of rounds.

  8. Ive had one for about a year, so much better than the Lee precision it replaced. a couple of points to watch out for.

It does over-throw every so often, 0.1g usually, but its accurate enough for me as a fun shooter.

Its fine with RS62 but powders with bigger kernels like N570 can get stuck in the despensing tube. (a toothpick will fix!)

I have an anti static wrist wrist strap round the hopper to stop the powder sticking.

Cleaning is a bit of a faf, but a small price to pay,

Always check the cleaning hatch is closed before you start your next session
