  1. Defo go for the 22 lr , with good subsonic ammo and known distance it does a great job. Once the rabbits get wary of what s happening the n use a hmr and keep a bit further away.
Wonder if the quiet 22 s thump into the ground of the bullet makes them run for cover against the fact that the hmr noise covers the noise of the bullet striking the ground and they’re left thinking, what’s that about?????.

Every calibre is a tool to do a job. Pick your tool to suit the conditions.
    cheers

  2. Hope it’s not some daft offset numbers in StrelokPro. Could go to a 100 yard zero and start over again?? . Work things out backwards to the 300 zero and see where the turrets start working properly if you can clamp the rifle solidly then turn turrets to find where the reticle starts to move might give some insight. 185 jugs are a great choice for the longer range targets.
with a 20 moa rail and 38 mm high rings I still need a fair amount of up on the turret to get a 100 yard zero .
Just a dafty is the rail on the right way round ie fat end to the rear of the stock . Looking at the scope from the side you should be able to see a slight downward slope from stock end to barrel end . Stock end being higher than barrel end. Hope this doesn’t sound patronising and hopefully you get things sorted. Cheers

  3. Lovely toys there , they certainly make life much easier. My v4 turned up 2 months after ordering. 23.5 g for the 223 comes out very accurately and quickly. Will be trying it on the n150 after the 1 July shoot at catterick. Might need a little washer under the rear mount just to get the flow rate upto the recommended rate .

After years of completing all my maintenance just using the bipod in the rifle I recently picked up a Tipton ultra gun vise. I have no experience of the others available but what I will say is they are heavy and hold the rifle firmly place. What I wouldn’t want is something that is lightweight. It’s good because I can move it.

However what I would say is if you have an existing vise something like this for clamping the barrel would be a cost effective way of clamping the rifle. Don’t be scared of clamping a barrel as most gunsmiths do it.

Great link there to Etsy vise grips etc . Thanks for that scotch egg . Bog standard record 3 or 4” vice and some custom soft jaws looks like a very good solution.
    cheers

  5. They respond well to a caller as they havnt been educated yet in what’s man made . Beware they sometimes run in very fast . I stopped using rabbit distress as I’ve shot most of them so pheasant or young hare works well for me . The old fox s don’t respond much to the gc 500

  6. Something with a nice long slippery high bc bullet pushed fast enough to stay transonic at your longest possible range .

308 for my 26” barrel with 185 Berger s struggles at 1000 but no problem at 700 .
The new 300 prc or 7 mm 08 could be good. Barrel life can be very low with the 284/ big cases.
300 win mag with 185 Berger will be good for easy 1200 .

6.5 creed does everything to 1400
