We use the 1 inch vbull.

A 4 inch vbull is way to big.

    Used my 24 inch 6.5x47 and 140gr hybrids over 41.5grs of RS62

I suppose it depends which class you are shooting in. There's never been a 50:10 in G Class to my knowledge

    Good shooting either way

They still come with the Vortex lifetime warranty, so if they break and can't be fixed, you'll get the latest model in return.

to be honest I’m keen to not give the NRA any more of my money. I used to be a member

You said " I shoot at Bisley and loathe the place and the old-boys-club mentality. I am one of the youngest in my club, despite pushing 40, and have very little in common with the other members.

it’s now got to the point that I pretty much dread shooting; the long drive, the loneliness of standing on a range with nothing to say to the other club members, the expense. I’m wondering how many times can I make a hole in paper and still enjoy it"

That's because you are shooting the wrong disciplines with the wrong people. Bisley's facilities are head and shoulders above most of the country, you just need to use them and enjoy them, instead of using them in the manner that others do.

You'll get out of it what you put in.

If you are travelling to Bisley why don’t you try CSR. It can be shot with your AI. It’s still on a square range but shot in different positions which creates a new aspect to the scenario.

Shooting on your belly in a stable position on a range with sighted shots really does become boring. Especially when you have been doing it for 12 years.

Then there is PRS which is now also being ran at Bisley along with other locations in the U.K. which will obviously require a lot more travelling, however it gets you off the square range template.

of course there is also F class competitions that your rifle could also qualify for but I don’t have any experience in this type of shooting discipline.

How about a spot of deer stalking? Your rifle might be more suitable for, shall we say other targets, however at least you know it will be accurate.

All of these formats will open you up to different groups of people and hopefully a joint interest which will give you a new lease of enthusiasm.

You won't be bored shooting CSR and you won't be thinking your AI is too accurate when you are shooting 3 second snaps at a Fig 14 after a run down.

There is the 4 day Imperial coming up from 28th June, then the league starts again in October.

Several of us book a lane once or twice a month to practice, you are welcome to join us. But bring plenty of ammo.

  6. There was more than one original question, hence the answers you received.

    As for Primers:

Democrats win election, the US shooters start stockpiling ammo and reloading components.

Ammo sales go through the roof, manufactures need primers for their ammo -  primer availability affected

US buy even more ammo and reloading components, so they have less to sell to the UK and other markets.

    Think COVID and toilet rolls.

Russia invades Ukraine - the Western World see a massive opportunity to sell ammunition. All available ammunition in military calibres gets bought up and shipped to Ukraine

Western armies need to restock and still supply more to Ukraine

Ammunition manufacturers work overtime to service Govt orders

Very small UK reloading market is last on the manufacturers list of people to be supplied.

  7. Have you ever been asked to show receipts for reloading supplies to prove you have reloaded and shot ammunition?

Not sure how they would ever know how much or little you have shot unless you told them?

Or buy some factory ammo and shoot it.

  8. I expect it is just an accrediting body. There are several of them, they look at the training material, make sure it addresses the learning objectives and then accredit it, for a fee.

It gives an impression of an official course.

It is more a quality assurance of the structure of the training rather than the content.

We work with several accrediting bodies, hence my understanding

  9. That is a magazine from an original PM Rifle, prior to 1986

There are a very small number out there, as once the L96 was approved, the magwell was shortened to accept the L96/AW mag that we all know now. This mag was handmade at AI for the 308, it was never a long action calibre for AI.

I spoke to Dave Walls about them last year, he couldn't remember what mag they were originally, possibly American, or possibly made from scratch.

It will only fit one of the early rifles with the long magwell.

Apart from the one I own, I knew of one other which I think is now in the US.

    Hope that helps.

  10. When the Firearms Amendment Act was written in 1988, the Home Secretary Douglas Hurd had a nice pair of Purdey shotguns in the family. He obviously didn't want to lose them.

Therefore a section was written into the act which contains the sentence:

Sect 3 (1B) For the purposes of paragraph (b) of subsection (1A) above an applicant shall, in particular, be regarded as having a good reason if the gun is intended to be used for sporting or competition purposes or for shooting vermin; "and an application shall not be refused by virtue of that paragraph merely because the applicant intends neither to use the gun himself nor to lend it for anyone else to use"

Thereby allowing Dougie to keep his family heirlooms without having to demonstrate good reason.

So, you can have a shotgun, because you want one.

Until that changes, the issuing of shotgun certificates will not require good reason, just that the applicant is suitable.
