  1. That's exactly my concerns when anyone posts that beginner reloaders will find plenty of advice on the net.

How on earth do they expect someone new to know good from bad advice much less be able to know what latitude there is re safety on things like headspace if, for instance, shoulder bump doesn't come out exactly as expected?

  2. Despite huge lead times for UK availability I have one on order for an AR15.

Taking a flyer as I would not normally buy without handling one first.

Anyone had hands-on and could say one way or the other if it lives up to the hype?

It will mainly be used sub 400 yards but I do shoot this gun at 600 with 77g SMKs very satisfactorily.

  3. Like most I just want to shoot and enjoy good company and banter.

To me the more venues and opportunities the better.

PRL has become a moot point for me as even though I love it and have shot at a number of venues since it started up......  I simply can't afford the costs which have escalated well beyond what I can run to.

I am pinning my hopes on the MQC and RMPRA continuing to provide good value 'bread and butter' shooting at a sensible cost, at venues I can actually get to without massive travel and accomodation costs.....  and with friendly faces turning up.

Having said all that I hope Tiff and Josh et all find success because I have seen first-hand the amount of effort and dedication it takes.....  and we are TRULY short of UK venues to shoot steels. Paper just doesn't float my boat any more.

  4. DS1..... 15 FPS on ES is pretty spiffy....  if you mean SD then not so great.

IMHO Most brass prep beyond the very basics comes down to what gives you the most confidence that your rounds are made to the best standard that you are personally prepared to put effort into.

There may well be the 'law of diminishing returns'  as you apply more processes but I feel safe in saying that my shooting improves if I am happy that I have the best ammo I can possibly make.

It also reduces 'excuses' ! 😁

  5. I fixed my Dillon issue by having a mate machine a new case holder with the support rod that goes inside the case being made just wide enough to fit in the case mouth......about .222 thou.

It no longer skews off to the side which was causing the primer pocket to be pushed out from the inside....simples...and I can't see why Dillon make the original part so narrow.

The new part completely supports the inside pocket so no distortion occurs.

I am using CCIs but read that you need the Magnum version of the Muroms or else you risk piercings because the cup is thin?

I bought a 1000 Murom standard small primers but am afraid to use them!

I use Murom successfully in 260 rem and withgreatly reduced SD / ES over CCI .

  6. I did John.

I used that to set up the swager.

The other end is for checking pocket depth I think?

I am using Mitutoyo calipers get an accurate  pocket depth reading.

In starting to ream out the pockets I am noticing that the shiny cut surface on one side is shallow whist the as yet untouched primer residue on the other side is okay around  .120 deep.

    Smacks of wonky manufacture?

  7. I am just preparing some once fired GGG brass for reloading.

Deprimed with Lee decaping die no problem.

Swaged with a Dillon 600 no problem.

    All good so far.

The primer pockets seem very shallow.... less than the .117 thou minimum spec and often only .112.

Using a K &M pocket uniformer which comes set at .122 cutting depth is tedious!

Anyone got any thoughts on the shallow pocket depth?

At first I worried that perhaps the decaper pin had pushed the pocket out but it slips through the flash hole easily enough.

    Possibly just low QC?
