Very nice for those living in the far north of England or Scotland, but sadly far to far away for the vast majority of Offa's Dyke members. I personally could not afford the diesel to get to Scotland from Somerset for a day's shooting, gorgeous though it looks.

Fortunately, I have joined Monmouth and District Rifle Club who are super friendly and welcoming and are booking military ranges. They are the saviour for disenfranchised ODRC members.

Agree all you say.... no way John was a scammer.

I attended many ODRC shoots firstly as a member then as a reciprocal arrangement via FCSA.

FCSA are willing to book Warminster etc but lack local RCOs.

With the loss of Salisbury Plain I was very much hoping to shoot ar IR2 , Rogiet Moor , Sennybridge etc with ODRC.

If there are RCOs within former ODRC ranks then it would seem sensible to talk with FCSA (Chris Stevenson) about combining efforts in the South, Wales and Midlands.

FCSA is likely to become very North-centric so this could be a very good fit for all concerned.

I don't know details about ODRC falling foul of the MOD nor do I want to rake over the politics and personalities in the fight but clearly any joint effort with FCSA would need to exclude anyone involveddirectly in the fracas.

Your thougnts and perhaps any trustworthy ODRC contacts that might be interested?

  3. The cost of kit is considerable but my advice before buying anything would be to get a knowledgeable  handloader to show you how, what are the safe latitudes incertain critical measurements, what to do if these are not what you expected and what tools you need to startup.

Many will advise internet research but.....you won't know what questions to ask....... ask someone to SHOW you.

  4. Kalahari.... re your comment about 'a standard deer rifle' and the inference that it will not cope with long range.

The below is probably only outlining what you already know but here goes....😁

I think the only constraint there is in the optics as eg any 6mm or 6.5mm will do 1000 yards no problem with the right bullet.

If you have enough scope elevation or are willing to buy a modestly priced sloped rail you are surely good to go.

  5. POPS ....the  'They' that I refer to is anyone posting something aimed at the complete novice that does not include safety and performance lattitudes in what otherwise might be completely sound advice.

Typically you get the 'How To' posted but not much on what the novice is supposed to do when the results are not exactly what was expected.

I reference or example particularly these sort of concerns that a complete novice should really get first hand from a knowledgeable demonstrator ....at least in my view.

    • I overdid shoulder bump but is it still safe to fire and how can I improve my sizing technique?
    • I trimmed my brass too much can I still use it?
    • My neck tension is not what I expected...why?

I DO TOTALLY agree with you that it's up to the individual to do as much as he can to get it right but YouTube stuff , in many cases, glosses over problems which the novice WILL encounter.
