Hi guys I am now in a position to make slugs in both dish base and hollow base
Both my fac air guns have I believe 1 in 17.7 barrels one is polygonal the other a Fx stx superior There will be an optimal slug weight and speed at which you can push it for those barrels my plan was to start with 20 grain and go up in one grain increments until I find what works with both slug types ,in both guns
Is there a formula to use to get me in the ball park ?I would assume the light 20 grain slugs will not be great as they will be supersonic unless I also turn down both guns to suit .
has anyone dabbled in fac with slugs

Have a look on you tube search a guy called sub12 airguner , Jeff does a huge amount with airguns ,forget the sub 12 bit they all work at the same cylinder pressure, if it was tight to un do it may have been thread lock , generally I just snug them up , the actual pressure will be held via o rings and things fitting correctly rather than being tight

I always use a very light smear of silicon grease on o rings ,did the same when diving for scuba gear and airguns for probably 30 year ‘ less is more .
-
Personally I would do it yourself
the puff of air will be the breach seal ,I would check out the foster fitting where you fill it for leaks before going too deep .
I had an air ranger years ago and and made a power adjuster for it , Daystate said it couldn’t be done ,again from memory there was a sticker saying warranty void if removed and either a silver steel rod stopping me getting to take the bolt block off or odd fixing screws I really can’t remember I managed whatever without too much trouble though

How do you find the pard ?

The air ranger is a lovely gun ,I had a sub 12 a few years ago very quiet and really accurate

That's why the Rapid platform is so popular, it only has a few o rings, I have a Rapid MFR I bought new in 2003, other than 1 bottle o ring it's completely standard and untouched, British engineering at it's finest.
I also have a RAW HM1000x chassis rifle that is essentially the latest incarnation and updated rapid

The mk3 is a fantastic tool but there are reliability reports problems with leaks ect , my mk. 2 will nearly do the same power and has less to go wrong
-
I will take the ergo delux if you can hang on to it a couple of weeks
-
Don’t think they do one for the air ranger
-
How old is it ,there are much easier guns to have at high power fac air .
I have a Fx impact and in .22 I can run at 70 ftlb or over 100 in .30
the rapids are good and cheap I also have a raw . 54 ftlb in .22
-
To be honest mk1 mk2 and mk3 all all belting guns
I have a sub 12 mk1 silly amount of shots
a fac mk2 quite a few choice bits fac .22 700 mm barrel 600 mm .30 barrel and just ordered a .25 700 mm barrel
for all out power the fx wins at the moment
but my fac RAW is a lovely insanity accurate gun to shoot

I do fancy A 700 but if I want to take a few my shots I take the 3 ltr 300 bar carbon cylinder

Hi all a last year I a Lee electric lead melting pot ,bottom pour ,not quite sure of the model,I also have quite a bit of lead some I cast into bun tin trays so it’s nice and clean some lead shot some lead pipe ect , it’s looking like casting for slug swaging isn’t the way to go .
anyone any idea what it’s worth ? -

It can be a pain in the ass trying to chase the best tune ,things I can tune
twist rate on barrel liner two or three variations in each but the large calibres
barrel lengths 500 ,600,700and 800 mm
regulator pressure
hammer weight
hammer spring rate
micro adjustment on the hammer spring
16 steps of hammer preload after that
transfer port shape and size
valve return spring rate
valve return spring preload to alter projectile timing .
all have to be in balance, basically decide what you want to shoot and at what speed the you can adjust everything, a chronograph is essential.
barrel harmonics play a huge part in the whole set up too .

Powder burners rimfire or otherwise are much much cheaper but they also have there drawbacks .
with my impact I could go down to 12 ftlb in .22 and with the same gun go to a max with mine of about 70 ftlb , I can swap the calibre to my .30 cal and still shoot 60 grain slugs at over 110 ftlb , I can’t shoot to great distance but some are pushing them to 300 yard , and if you want to reall push them there are guns that will shoot 400 plus grain slugs still over 1000 fps .
the thing about air is I can do all the work with the set up and shot to stop consistently is within 5 fps ,rimfire ammo isn’t that good
