I built a 6mm TCU for a fellow about 20 years ago. TCU stands for Thompson/Center Ugalde, if I remember rightly. This was a rifle and for the life of me I can't remember what the guy wanted if for. The cartridge was a real killer at 200M Handgun Silhouette competition but was underpowered for 500M Rifle Silhouette, and bit anemic for big game hunting. The rifle was a Winchester and I cut back and rechambered a heavy Douglass AG .243 barrel he'd gotten from someone. I don't think I ever heard how it shot, either.~Andrew

Andy,

Some more info for you. There are two cartridges of this type, from what I have found so far, one is the 6mmTCU, as mentioned, and the other is the 6X45 mm, originally developed in 1965 as a benchrest/varmint round. There is more info on this and the 6mm TCU in "Cartridges of the World" 8th edition pp165/6. The two cartridges are more or less identical.

Peter
