Quickload advice - possible purchase

Hi guys,

I've been thinking about buying QL for a while but I need a bit of advice about whether I can put in wildcat cartridges?

I've got a 6.5 Nemesis coming which is basically a 22-250 case necked up to 6.5mm and then fireformed blowing the shoulders forward and to a 41 degree angle.

Is it possible to plumb this into QL to check my proposed fireform load is safe (or to determine the safe level) and then run the numbers for a fireformed case?

The powder of choice is N150 but I haven't got much at the moment and I would want to determine whether I could use Varget safely (it's a bit quicker) to form the case?

FF load is usually about 33-34gr N150 and then 38-39gr for the finished article pushing a 123gr SMK.

Cheers!

Phil

Thanks Spud.

It's not on the list so it looks like I'll be doing it the hard way

Nice to know I can though.

Cheers,

You can play with case dimensions, capacity, weighting factor and starting pressure to get to a velocity that matches your real world load then use it for some modelling from there but it's obvioulsy no substitute for load development (or a clamp and a long piece of string.. )

I would have thought 22-250 AI (which is in there) would be a good starting point then increase the bullet and bore diameters, adjust the case length and capacity in grains of H2O.....

Have a look here for some ideas on tweaking QL.

I'll be joining you with the same calibre over the next couple of months all being well so I'll be having a play at some point but there are some decent known loads as a starting point.

I'm just being geeky and haven't got much N150 at the moment :)

What spec rifle are you getting?

Not completely sure yet Phil. I have a Manners GAT Thumbhole and a Border Cut sitting here, not decided on action or bottom metal yet, trigger will be another CG.

I only recently picked up my 6BR and have not finished loads for it yet so I'm not in any rush.

I would think that either a 250 savage AI or a 260 rem AI would be pretty close to those specs. The 250 would need a bore upsize, but is the correct parent. The 260 is the right bore and is pretty close to a 250 case blown out. Both would have 40 degree shoulders. Both would get you a starting point in QL to see if Varget is close enough. Might be something on the web too if you look for 260 rem loads.

Thanks,

Rick
