skany
This ones for the parker hale pervs!;-) you know who you are! lol After seeing how well & reading how well these old parker hales shot (thanks to Jamie & ray & the several other cornish long range boys )I had to get me one! I think my last trip was what pushed me over the edge to be honest with long barrel life being a Big factor with my main rifle being a custom 243Ai shooting light fodder! Anyways after many a near miss when trying to buy a TX1200 & some other bugger pipping me to the post & getting it from under my nose (word is out on these guns me thinks)I picked up a really tidy parker hale M84! I picked it up friday & set about trying to get a scope on the damn thing as it had a peep site jobby on it! The problem with the m84 is it has a flat top unlike most other mausers so bases just dont fit!(grrr) anyway some devcon & screwed on with like one thread the bases were on(tempory job here mind) got the leup 6-20x50 mounted & its all systems go! loaded up 30 rds 15 of varget & 15 of vit 150 behind 155gAmax & i was off to the farm at 10.30 this morning to have a play! I wasent that hopefull to be honest as i was a little woried the scope would just fall off under recoil & there was a problem with the rifling about 1cm down from the crown that i was woried about, where a peice of the lands was corroded compleatly away!!! (about 3-4mm) I fiqured if it kinda shot id keep it & have the last inch cut off & take a chance on it! Anyways heres some pics http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b156/Andykat/ph3jpeg.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b156/Andykat/ph2jpeg.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b156/Andykat/pph1jpeg.jpg heres a pic of my last 3 groups with the varget this was the load i was counting on as if it didnt shoot this something was up as the cornish lads all shot this load i belive! from left 3 shots at 100yds next to are 5 shot groups @ 200 yds!:-) now for a gun with dodgy rusty lands & scope hanging off i was kinda happy i can tell you! http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b156/Andykat/ph4jpg.jpg havent got the vernier yet on em but at 100yds its sub 1/4 no probs i was realy struggling with the trigger at 200 but still well please!(used to the jewel @1lb) the vit 150 seemed jsut as good but i only shot one group wit them that i really tried with as i was trying to find a zero & i struggeld to find the box with th first 4 shots (lucky that 308 leaves a bit of a scar lol) any way i is well pleased! now off to mess with the trigger:-) Andy

silentsoulsleave308holes
cut that fracker before 500 rounds and I wont talk to ya anymore learn it first then make up your mind, left on and shooting good yo can take it off later, take it off now and you aint gonna find a good enough glue to put it back it shoots good so leave it shoot good for while
njc110381
Looks like a nice rifle. Why would you want to cut it if it's shooting ok? The .308 certainly seems to have quite a following for long range work. I'm beginning to wish I'd asked for one instead of a Win Mag! I don't think PH did a WM version of their sniper rifles. A great shame as I'd be after one if they did. I spotted a tidy PH 1200 the other day. Nice looking guns. Your M84 is pretty nice too
ds1
What may be a good idea, whilst PH are popular and now not made is a list of where you can get info or spare parts (possibly). Norman Clark Gunsmiths has / had original PH bipods and a "pod lock" adapter for them. He also has exploded diagrams of the M84, M85 etc (link below) and possibly other bits (I bought 3 PH bipods from him and pod locks....a few years ago). http://www.normanclark.com/opening_page/opening_page.htm From that link you can click onto a "Parker Hale" page. Possibly.....Romel (Helston Gunsmiths) may have rifles or bits........it`s been at least 10 years since I was there, so things may have changed but I doubt it. David. I may even try & follow your cleaning regime lol the vit 150 load didnt kick like the varget load so im guessing its a little slow so i may have to buy a tub! cheers for all the advise again mate & hope to get down so you can have a play sooner rather then later:-) Andy

ChrisF
Just saw this , as far as I can tell , the M84 is a single shot version of the M87 , the M87 uses a 30-06 OAL magazine , and is usually 6 rds , this is basically a C3A1 if you drop it into either the OLD TX1200 wooden stock , or a McM A2 stock , and then fit the special PH scope mount made for the C3A1 , which was made to use the USMC type Unertl 10x scope . Some of the old PHs are rather nice rifles , I should know ,as I have a TX1200 & a M85 & a M87 Later Chris
Reecy
Hey Chris, Good to see you are still around-is your M85 the one that was used in the NZ Police/Military trials and came to you via a deal with a mate of a mate in the right place. I sent you some M85 manuals a few years back-do you remember? I still have mine (bought it in '93) and it remains the most reliable and thoroughly accurate rifle i have owned, i use it for Practical, Target and Stalking-have had loads of beasties with it. It's a pleasure to see other Parker Hale guys on here, it's like they have just discovered something really, really good-because of course, we know that it is really, really good. ChrisF
NO, I got it off a Dutch guy that advertised IT in the US forums about 5 or so yrs ago , I replyed with a cash offer , and he emailed me straight back saying Yes , I asked for some pics of the bolt face , action etc , then relised the for sale ad was almost 8 mths OLD . Lots of Yanks wanted that rifle , but I think they have trouble doing private imports . At the moment , mine is not getting shot because , I donot have a means of mounting a 30mm tube scope to her at present , any ideas ? I have a good M87 thats has a real original PH C3A1 mount , and thats been fitted , I however need to pull the 243 barrel & fit a PH 308 barrel , so I can run it . I quite like the PHs , and my favourite is the M85 , a well thought out rifle . Cheers Chris
