dogfox
Hi Would I be breaking any law if I had a thompson encore rifle and I replaced the rifle stock to a pistol grip and kept the over all lenght to 24 inches so it is still a section one firearm. baldie
The barrel has to 30 cms minimum, and the overall length has to be 60 cms minimum. If you reduce the oal below sixty cms, you commit a section five offence, and that gets you a cell with a big black guy called "marigold"

dogfox
Hi Baldie So what you are saying if I put a pistol grip on my encore and as long as I keep the OAL at 24 inches (600mm). I am not breaking any laws. Dogfox
baldie
The measurements are set in stone. The wording can and will cause confusion. I dont have it exactly here, but basically, if you remove the stock easily, with no more than a screwdriver, or as the wording has it " any easily available tool" and it is then below 60cms...it is then a section 5 weapon. When i convert the buckmark in the shop, it has to be done to a set procedure, including cutting off part of the underside of the stock, so i can get in and fit the new unremovable brace, then i have to remove the rest of the stock. Its a right pain in the arse, but the only way to comply with the law. i would ring your licensing office and ask. Its too complex a law to get it wrong, and i only have experience of the buckmark and taurus conversion legally. The police came and vetted our procedure. Last i heard , Marigold had been released, and was moving down cornwall looking for some goateed butch boys.........

Vermincinerator
The police came and vetted our procedure. Hi Baldie, Can i enquire to what qualifications, practical gunsmithing or machining experience, competency training, help groups, etc........... the police had to accurately vet and determine if your procedure was sound and carried out within the confines of the law? Or was it just a visit from your local bobby with a fold up wooden rule Ian
baldie
yep, exactly what i thought Ian. Basically i went through the procedure, as i thought legal with him, and then showed him. All they wanted to see, was that a section 5 offence wasn,t being committed, because its easy to do. The daft thing about it all is i,ve lost count of the number of tauruses i,ve converted, whose wrist brace was falling off, or had actually done so, and been glued back in. This law is an absolute farce, the brace must not be "easily removable" or must "require specialist tools" Hands up who doesn,t own a hacksaw ? I dont mind with our FLO, he is a smashing guy, who is rigidly strict, but genuinly does not want to see shooters, shooting, or a legitimate buisness be impeded. Great shame the rest arent like him, infact, south yorks firearms is full of decent, helpfull folk, just the same. We are lucky i suppose.
dogfox
So if I removed the stock from a carbine rifle or any rifle and it was under 600 mm then it would be a section 5. The law is a ass. Dogfox
