Shootist
I have a Winchester Low Wall in .22 rimfire. Made in 1906 it's a great rifle, but it's accuracy might be better. I am hoping to have the barrel re-sleeved From internet research it seem that with the right tools it's not that difficult a job for someone who knows what they're doing. It's that someone I need to find. Can anyone recommend a gunsmith, preferably located in the East Midlands, that is likely to do the job without requiring the sale of a kidney? I've already had one estimate that was so OTT that it was really a nice way of saying he doesn't want to do it.
Leeman
I've not heard of anyone doing this in the UK although there's no reason why not, as you say it can be done, I have an Accurate Shooter magazine which has an article on the process, with a sleeve obtained from Brownells, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if they still sell the sleeves but I'm sure if you check online there must be specialists who stock either sleeves or complete barrels for the Low Walls., or information on Single shot forums that would list suppliers. You just have the export regs to negotiate then but there are exporters who can do that for a fee of course. Richard.
Akeld
Steve Harper used to do it for air pistols and rifles, I believe it was also done on shotguns but even the guy doing that stopped as the adhesive wasn't up to the job
GeorgeB
I was under the impression that sleeving could only be used to restore shotgun barrels, rifles need to be relined with a thin rifled liner. It used to a popular way to restore .22 RF rifles .
1066
I seem to recall that Alan Westlake used liners in some of his muzzle loading target pistols. You might find this interesting.

Different forms of sleeving, the traditional method for shotguns is to cut off the barrels in front of the chamber and weld on a new (cheaper) set, then smooth it all out, stamped as sleeved at the proof house. Someone then started boring out pitted barrels and lining them, but it seems to have fallen out of favour, from problems with the adhesive used as I recall.
