deadcenter
Hi Folks, opened a part tub of Vhit N-140 today and it smells funny. A bit like bread when it goes moldy. Haven't come accross this before. It still looks and meters the same. Last used some from this lot about a month ago and it was fine. Is it ok to use? furrybean
It should have a chemically smell. Does it look okay and not clumpy or anything?
deadcenter
Looks fine. Just smells different to how it normally does. Not clumpy or sticky, same colour. Haven't tasted it . I have some N-150 which smells as it normally does, for comparison. Slight chemical type smell. Before I went ahead and loaded with it, I thought I ask if anyone had come across it before and if it was a problem.
Shuggy
The normal smell of Nitrocellulose is that of ether. But it is perfectly possible for powder to go mouldy. Have you had it open in a damp atmosphere?
deadcenter
No, upstairs room, normal temp, Vhit 1kg tub. About 1/3 left. Last summer when I opened it. The Vhitavouri load booklet gives info on powder storage and says that it can deteriorate and gives off an irritating acidic smell. This just smells a bit stale. Everything else about it seems normal.
Shuggy
It may be a bit of biodegradation. I wouldn't worry too much, but if you are concerned, use it to feed your cabbage patch and buy a fresh bottle.
nicklock
use it to feed your cabbage patch Aren't brassicas gaseous enough without doing that?
