Thread Cutting Tooling

Interesting discussion.

 

I use insert tooling - never used HSS for threading.

 

I dont get tears and have smooth threads on the work I do.

 

I use a manual lathe.

 

I thread at 190 RPM and get along just fine in both metric and imperial

 

 

 

There are many ways to do the same job, you all may be right and have strong opinions - doesnt necessarily mean yours is correct....

A very interesting thread. A somewhat heated debate by 2 men who are passionate about their machining. I admire constructive criticism on any level. And if an "old dog" learns a new trick, then I would call that a successful debate.

Thanks for that I enjoyed this thread immensely . I'm not a machinist or a gunsmith. I do have a small workshop behind my house with a lathe a mill drill presses etc. But I am strictly an amateur. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this and the chambering a barrel thread. More like this please.
