20moa mounts

Recommended Posts

Hi,I have obtained a cheap Rem 700ADL in 308win.The idea is that it will be a hobby rifle,to do various jobs on and improve it stage by stage without the wife noticing. The first thing I had to do was float the barrel and adjust the trigger,a packmayr decellerator recoil pad has also been fitted. The rifle came with millet mounts and a cheap Bushnell 2.5x scope.I am looking at upgrading the whole outfit so it can be used on the range and out hunting. Is there any disadvantage to fitting a 20moa rail to a rifle that will be used for hunting?Any advice on mounts, stocks etc welcome.Have thought either McMillan or HS. Regards- Toby

hi toby ,

just brought a rem700 police in 308 as a one for all jobbing rifle wild boar deer foxes and prehaps some brench rest 26 " heavy barrel with target crown and a wildcat p12 moderator have fitted a set of ken farrel 20 moa weaver mounts which retail in the uk for about 90 to 100 pounds these come with wrenches and instruction all included and have a recoil preload which you set with a set screw on the front of the ejection port . fitted a old simmons scope as i wantd to play and was waiting for the scope i had ordered the idea is you can zero low in your adjustment range which was true about ten clicks off end of down travel and still have room to adjust to zero at 1000 yds with out changing bases .

the 700 police comes in a hs stock which feels and shoots nice wide fore end and double front sling mounts mounts are one piece and come complete with bedding instructions if you want to go that far .

scope wise just fitted a nikko sterling nighteater 6 - 24 x56 ir mil dot serious good value for sub 200pounds at the moment

Hi Toby

Ive fitted numerous Farrel one piece rails to rifles, they come in zero degree and 20 degree incline.

If you dont want the extra reach on your scope, use the 0 degree incline model.

The Farrell rails stiffen the Rem action quite alot, if you have the ability, replace the original 6/48 mount threads with overside 8/40 thread and sets.

Makes a more secure set up for your scope.

Socks - HS Precision are a quick and easy replacement - always available 2nd hand too.

Composite - Manners, Mcmillan, Wild Dog and Robertson are well known makes all inletted for the Rem 700.

Laminate may be an option especially in your climate - standard Rem 700 laminate is very good and a chap called Joel Russo (who is a member here) makes good quality replacements in a number of styles.

The Rem 700 is the Ford Escort of the gun world - basic workhorse with loads of aftermarket accessories available that enhance its ability no end.
