Kestrel windmeter - what advice ?

From my research I think the 2500 model will suffice for reading wind and temp at circa £125 - unless there is an argument for spending more.

 

I will use it with Strelok at ranges of 500 yards.

 

Advice would be appreciated.

4500NV applied ballistics with bluetooth. It would save a lot of faffing between inputting your kestrel data into your strelok app, plus the AB software really is at the tops of it's game with regards to tuneability etc.

Principally as a base reference to build my wind doping knowledge from my shooting position, and with flags at intervals to targets at different ranges. I can refine my drop charts for when in the field.

Depends of course how much money you want to throw at this-or how much you will pay for transfer of data convenience etc.

Since the wind is the big variable-and you can only measure it at firing point-I got a basic Kestrel (e bay £30)-a cheap thermometer would be about £2.... the other atmospheric data is unlikely to be very critical...but if you want all the complexity-and can use it-of the all singing and dancing Kestrels (but still only giving basic wind reading) then indulge......maybe check whether your use will demand all these variables be 'precisely' measured....varmints to 300 yards won't....good luck.

For your info, I think the 4500 ballistic one only does G1 ballistics and not G7. I use the 4000 with blue tooth and find it very useful.

Negative, 4500 AB does G1, G7 and more importantly custom drag curves.

Thanks for the input chaps. I'm not sure what a drag curve is and there's a £300 difference between what I think will add practical value to my shooting and bugger it's just taken ten minutes to work this out.
