cmsds
hi guys a bit confused I have a slot on my ticket for a .260 does this mean that I can buy a 6.5 or is this a completely different calibre and I will have to go for a variation if I wanted to purchase a 6.5 rifle thanks
jcampbellsmith
If in doubt contact your Firearms Licensing Dept. Here they take the view that a variation for a 6.5 x 47 is not the same as a variation for a 260 Rem, but your folk may well take a different view. pork chop
if you want a 6.5x47 /55 you will need a variation
gbal
I think you will need a free one for one variation- ask your FLO-but it should be straightforward.Be polite, the whole issue of calibre/and cartridge names is quite inconsistent, but FLOs are much better informed these days, and these two have very similar applications/specs. Sometimes the wording can be more 'flexible'-eg permission for 'a 6mm rifle' rifle' might well allow a 6mm Rem,or a 6BR. That little 'a' making all the difference-compared to one '6BR'rifle' which means what it says(again, easily varied, usually.) 308/7.62 and 223/5.556 are well established -'either ors' really -the same gat,of course-but markings can vary) gbal
newsatten
You dont state where your located, but here in Kent , Firearms will give you a vari both metric and imperial , ive such a option and it states 6.5/260 Rifle no requirement to specify case length etc. makes sense really
CZ Varminter
Just get a .260 you won't go wrong. If you do go for a variation, try a 6.5 x 55 or 6.5 x 284 All the best. CZV
cmsds
thanks guys very helpful, I was going to go for the 260 but finding it difficult to find a good second hand semi or full custom rifle there seems to be more 6.5 around
Vermincinerator
You can only buy a 260 even though it shoots a 6.5mm bullet, This is because "260" is the commercial name of the cartridge and thats what you have asked for. Ian.
