South Devon Ranges/fullbore club/opportunities

Well its official been dragged down to Devon and come mid April will be in my new house just outside Plymouth.

Looking for suggestions for ranges, clubs or other opportunities?

Lucky to have found a .22 prone club in the next village across so thats a bonus, but work like to find somewhere to shoot the .44 and LSR competitions and a range for load development.

Seen a farm near Exeter to check out with an advertise range but would appreciate some insider pointers.

Cheers Will

There are a few options I know of:

Or slightly futher afield:

Depending on where you are/how much you want to drive, Millpool 600 yards gallery range in Cornwall (15 mins past the RRC) or Parracombe 100 yards in North Devon may be options:

Also Broadhembury range near Exeter is a small gallery range that goes out to around 600 yards. Not sure of current contact details, but know the BDS have used it in the past as well as an Exeter target rifle club. I shot there many years ago, with the now defunct Tavistock Drake Rifle Club: they had a great 600 yard gallery range in Tavistock, but the land got sold a couple of years ago and shooting was sadly stopped.

Apart from that, I'm not sure on the fullbore side. It would be great if Dartmoor was booked by a civilian club, hopefully a year or two down the line....especially as there are over 10,000 FAC holders in Devon & Cornwall alone!

Anyway hope that helps and sorry I didn't reply to your pm on the topic sooner,
Tiff

No problem :). A few more ideas, that you have probably already seen, but just incase :

For smallbore clubs in Devon:

http://www.dcsra.org.uk/index.php

For Cornish based Smallbore and some fullbore clubs:

http://www.ctsa.org.uk/Clubs.htm

Budliegh Farm near Mortonhampstead, Dartmoor, has good facilities for the area (turning targets, steel .22 plates etc). It's little pricy if booking buy the hour as a visitor, but I'm assuming costs come down if you're a member. It is well worth a look, especially as you can occasionally zero your fullbore rifle there (if sound moderated) at 100 yards.

Probably a bit far, but Newquay RPC has a very good new indoor range where they shoot most pistol calibers:

http://newquayrpc.co.uk

Also Looe RPC shoot most pistol calibers I believe - I keep meaning to go, just haven't got around to it yet.

Finally Dutchy Rifle association near Zelah, Cornwall is very friendly private 100 yard range suitable for nearly all fullbore calibers, with a significant HFT/FT air rifle layout along side. One of my favourite ranges in the county, with it's pleasantly Cornish laid back, yet very safety conscious and well run feel to it.

Think that's about covered it, although it would be great to hear of other options available in the two counties :)
