JB1
Why, surly you can put 250 - 450 yards between you and the crows and magpies, they ain't gonna seen you lol I sometimes sit in the luxury of my pickup having a coffee and biscuits. Lol
rodp
Just remember they're smarter than you think. If you think you can possibly be seen you can bet your boots they'll spot you. I was told, don't know how true it is, that the best bait for maggies is a bin bag with some rubbish spewing out of it Hide away and move very slowly as little as possible. JB1
It really depends on what "rifle" your intend to shoot them with. Thats why my answer was a little tongue in cheek. It could be an air rifle or a 6ppc so as you see ranges will obviously be a world apart.
Big Al
Why, surly you can put 250 - 450 yards between you and the crows and magpies, they ain't gonna seen you lol I sometimes sit in the luxury of my pickup having a coffee and biscuits. Lol Thats what I was thinking. Ive got a rest on my wing mirror and a rear bag on my door so I can shoot very accurately from the drivers seat of my truck, a very comfortable hide with the added benefit of heating, radio and coffee. Its surprising what these birds will notice though, if I have the rifle in position its fine to move slowly into the shooting position, if I have to pull the rifle from the passenger seat onto the rest they are off. Just set up and wait would be my advice and if your really worried about concealment you could easily drape a camo net over the vehicle. Of course all of this is assuming you can get the vehicle into location, Im lucky in that respect.

Si-Snipe
Can you get into a hedge? I shoot through the bottom of hedges at crows and magpies at ideally 200-250 but further if needed. I use a rabbit carcass as bait.

JB1
Thanks for that si-snipe, i have been using a cammo net and a chair but i dont seem to have much look Unfortunately I haven't found it anything like pigeon shooting, where you can decoy flocks of 100s in a field. My experience has been ringing the farmer and asking if I'm ok to have a day in a certain area then that's me sorted for the day. Butties flask cans of pop and just chill for the day rifle and shooting gear of course.
Pasty
Crows are pretty straight forward if you get something on the ground they're interested in, as said already a rabbit carcass with a couple decoys near by will get them on the ground. A bit of field craft goes a long way, watch and learn where they will be coming from and set up accordingly. If you get that right your hide needn't be anything special as they'll be focused on the interest thats on the ground, especially if you're 100-200yrds from the decoy area. gaz6br
Best day I had was with a shotgun, preditor intiser out, a fox draped over a log prop it's head and tail up and two crows on a magnet like there mobbing the fox. Stood in a deep ditch fully cammo with a cap on with net that covers hole face, 96 was taken that day and that's good for them. They have eyes like hawks. Try get near a nest sight for good results and don't move at all till the last second to take the shot Rifle 300 yards at least peg rabbits out, sit a dummy bird of pray in field ect ect but you won't get the numbers Drives them wild Gaz

I have a friend who is disabled and shoots his rifles on my ground. He sets up in a likely area and waits, last time out he had crows at 260 and 340 or a shade further. Guest Stacka
I use a fox iv shot the night before.....and crow decoys. Early the next morning, if you prop the fox up as if he's stalking the crows stomp him. I got the idea from a YouTube video Tried it a few time now and it works very well
Pasty
But if you're shooting with a rifle you'll want them to land, will they do so with a predator type decoy setup? I went out for a drive round this morning and popped a few from the truck, nice warm cosy shooting
Murph
Try a teddy bear or an owl decoy. The yellow eyes drive them mad!. Shot loads of them with this method with my air rifle. If you have any cattle feeders near you then they are a good place to ambush them. If you are close to them use a face veil and gloves and a camo net. They can spot movement very easily indeed.
