visiter1
Hi guys what is better for the drone pro , illumanator or a lazer?? im going to change my t 20 not sure what for,
AnthonyR
You don't want a laser, they are small with excellent battery life but do not offer the clarity that you can get from a decent IR torch, even the very best have artifacts in the beam. I use an Xsearcher on my Drone but there are quite a few large IR torches available now that would work out much cheaper for similar performance. I would contact SikaStag or Marky610 on the NVforum they should be able to sort you out.
CliveWard
LED based illuminators do give a smoother image with digital, but you will need a rather large one (66/67mm) to give you any advantage over the T20. The bigger lens doesn't make it any more powerful it just allows the beam to be focused tighter. Current only workable off the shelf solution because of the mounting diameter would be a NM800 turbo with x searcher head or one of IR Light Builds 66mm based on the T20. We'll have a 67mm LED illuminator coming out soon for a reasonable price if you can wait? Cheers Clive

fizzbangwhallop
I use a SunnRanger'd T20...... originally put together by Adam aka Sunndog on the nightvisionforumuk - it's just T20 with the head cut back to the threads and a straightforward Yukon 1.7 Ranger lens screwed on in place of the original lens. With a red led in place it gives a beam/die size a quarter of the NM800 and brighter with a single 18650...... partly down to the condensed picture but also the original single battery drivers kick out more mA than the 2 battery drivers. At 100m odd the SunnRanger just about fills the sight picture on the Drone 10x. Compared to the NM800: Pics..... from my purpose built test centre (back bedroom to the 40cm radiator in the bathroom at 8m) Floor to 8' ceiling, with a 4" downlight: Big white is standard T20, smaller white is NM800, Red is SunnRanger: Red T20 on the rad at 8m...... (it's 'possible' that the NM800 might be in the middle at just under 40x40cm. Just checked... it's not): Red Sunnranger on the same rad...... doesn't look like I've got one of the NM800 red on the rad: Red SR on the cabinet at 7m Red NM800 on the same cabinet:
varmint hunter
agreed LED illuminators do work well with digi..but tried the new laserluchs 150mw and it gave a similar image to the big torches with digi nv and is fraction off the size and had more poke..best image in a laser I've seen and had most. also works a treat with tubed kitt.very expensive here in the uk..half the price if you look around. Interesting, because AFAIK the old 150mw model didn't get a good write up. Do you have any video of it in action and where are the half price ones. There is one 150mw one on eBay but the ad makes no mention which version it is
CliveWard
Fizz, That's brilliant. You are an inspiration. I just had a rummage and a play with a few lenses and found this one knocking about and made this: Not had chance to compare with a NM but this gives a beam 1/4 size of the standard T20. Cheers Clive Not me Clive....... it was Adam aka Sunndog on the nvforum uk that first came up with it, he gets all the credit........ I just put one together. So all royalties to Adam It may well have been Adam but I can't quite remember who found the ubiquitous T20 we all know and love but it was first posted over there. http://www.nightvisionforumuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2854&hilit=sunnranger And he was also the first to remove the rear lens to find out what happened next............. http://www.nightvisionforumuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3435&hilit=sunnranger And for that matter........ the Crelant head http://www.nightvisionforumuk.com/viewtopic.php?t=1955 Cheers Fizz
sunndog
Fizz just gave me the nod to this thread sunnranger sits between a twin cell nm800 and xsearcher for power, closer to the xsearcher though and gives the cleanest of clean beams ....adam
