Salt Licks for Deer

I use general livestock Frank Wright blocks on one small bit of land.

I dig one into a clay bank that the deer naturally us. Since putting them there the deer (fallow) have dug the bank right out and at this time of year are using it at least once a week.

I use the small horsey-type ones (have to make sure they are sheep-safe where I am) in some woodland I have.

I place them on old cut stumps or large cut logs and they get a lot of use. The rain washes the minerals into the wood and they will continue to lick that after the block is gone.

Same, I also bought a 5L tub of molasses which I pour over every now and then

This is exactly what I needed gents....I wanted to make sure that they wouldn't harm the deer in anyway, I assumed it wouldn't but assumptions can be the mother of all.........ups.

I will purchase some blocks from my local farm supplies and what brand of molasses do you use Akeld?

Regards

I'll have to have a look for the exact brand (its over in the garage), it will be more or less in the same spot as the salt licks in the shop. You can get the solid stuff in a tub or the treacle like stuff that comes in the 5L tub, the reason i went for the lquid was I can pour it in various spots instead of having one block in one spot
