Whats the best thing to use in your gun cabinet for protecting you rifles against moisture, I use a light coating of oil on my rifles when storing them for a while but still see some moisture from time to time building up :angry:

hi tony,

 

i've used napier VP90 patches before which help,

however my gunsafe is in the loft and so is exposed to extremes of temperature. i ended up installing a piano heater in the safe which now helps to prevent any moisture (especialy during cold winter months)

I used a low watt lamp did the trick

I use a desiccant strip (silica gel) designed for shipping containers in mine. Does the job quite well but not sure if it's the cheapest option

Tena lady are really good for soaking up unwanted moisture!

I use a 25 watt bulb fixed inside the corner of the cabinet with a mesh cover to avoid breakages. Obviously this will set up nice mild convection current and so creates a slight warmth and circulation of air. Naturally I don't put wet rifles back and so minimise additional moisture. I always use a coating of oil from a wipe of a rag and I see no rust using both these measures.
