trucraft
After researching components I came across this article http://www.6mmbr.com/gunweek092.html I really like the idea of keeping the weight down. I've seen them on custom rimfires but assumed they were for looks only. The company In the link wrap pretty much any quality cut rifled blank. They have a pattent for a new design that allows proper cooling. I tried emailing them but keep.being bounced back. Could anyone with any experience of carbon barrels give their views. Zo, these guys bought ABS when they folded. http://www.jenseprecision.com/ i have no idea if they are still producing the carbon barrels. I know a guy who had a carbon barrelled rifle, it was feather light which was fantastic to carry, but it was a pig to try and shoot consistently as it would flick up like crazy under recoil, even with the muzzle brake. Personally i think a degree ofweight is very important in larger caliber rifles if you want to be able to use them effectively.
ejg223
The flicking up of the barrel is partially because the rifle is not balanced right. Partially because of stock shape. I flew over the article and wonder what they patented in their matrix. I had started blending particles into matrix materials twentyfive years ago to increase thermal conductivity. Nothing new. A very interesting subject though. I am hoping to play around and make myself a carbon barrel soon, possibly not with the goal to be ultra ultra light. If a 30mm straight taper weighs as much or even slightly more than a sporter steel barrel I would be happy. edi
trucraft
Thanx Paddy, I had read that they bought the company or patent and were the guys I tried to emailed. I saw someone in the US had posted about the rifle jumped about, it's a good point. Balance it a tricky thing to get right. Maybe with the right stock and a sound mod or as Edi said , something like #7 contour carbon weighing the sameas standard sporter.
