I have the above rifle that, owing to divorce became something of a safe queen.... that is until now

My problem is I think, it has a 1:12 twist barrel and when I was shooting Privi Partisan out of it I couldn't hit a cows arse with a handful o' pea's with it!

I want to develop a load for it that will be good outa ways and also be good for deer.

I have read conflicting stories and am getting more than a little confused, what weight bullet can I expect to push through it accurately?

Has anyone got a load I can try?

Thanks

If you can get Nosler Partition 60 grain and push them fast enough then your 1~12 may well stabalize them ...see below.

Ran this through `Quick Load`

Cartridge : .223 Rem. (SAAMI)

Bullet : .224, 60, Nosler Partition 16316

Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.260 inch or 57.40 mm

Barrel Length : 26.0 inch or 660.4 mm

Powder : Hodgdon BL-C2

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,

incremented in steps of 2.0% of nominal charge.

Only legal for Muntjac and Chinese water deer anyway, good excuse for another rifle?

It is a 1-12" twist so I would say a 50 or 55gr would be the heaviest it will stabilise, they should give good performance anyway and I have had good results with Varget 27.5grs behind the 50gr and 26.7 behind the 55gr with no pressure signs and excellent grouping in the same rifle as yours, bullets, both Vmax and Sierra were spot on.

Hello pard, I have been playing with loads in a 1 in 12 twist 223 for several years, I have found that a 50grn V-Max with 25.2 grns of Benchmark is shooting a the best for me I have a 24 inch barrel all seated at SAMMI spec and I will not be changing the combination now. Millpool tried the same load in his 1 in 9 twist and he is holding about an inch at 300 yds with the load.

Hope you have some luck pard.

Thanks Guys

I now feel a lot more comfortable about what it is I have and what I need to do to get it up and running  I have bought some 55gr SPBT Sierra and some 55gr Hornady's to try and thought I'd c*cked it up.

I got these cos I want to shoot deer with it as well as vermin (I got the deer to shoot with it  ) and I'd read the max for stabilising was 55gr but I then read I could go to 60 - 65gr and was gettin myself in a tizzy over it.

Thanks again.
