baldie
The mod is heating up and letting gas escape around its circumference. Try a dm80, its a brilliant rimfire mod.
brown dog
Wow, interesting problem! If we talk crack and thump; is the loudness 'crack' ie the round going supersonic, or 'thump' ie muzzle noise?

baldie
Thats because part of the cartridge gas is being used to cycle the action, and also that gas is then lost via the open breech. Run some insulation tape around the joints on the mod and see if there is any difference.
