blanks to replace sling swivel studs?

Recommended Posts

I don't use shoulder slings, so sling-swivel studs get in the way, especially for load-development etc at the range when shooting off a rest + bags. Anyone know of a source for discreet threaded blanking studs that will fit flush?

Thanks, Tony

Could you use the studs themselves? Cut them back to almost flush and put a radius on the edges so that they won't catch on anything. Cut the screw slot with a fine hacksaw and then cold blue.~Andrew

Nice idea Mark, and I'd do that. Two difficulties: I don't know how to measure threads, and finding specialist suppliers of e.g. good quality pan-head machine screws is problematic, even using Ebay and other Internet facilities. I suppose I thought that someone like Brownells or B-Square would have the item I'm after, and someone here might know of a UK dealer who stocks them...

But I'll certainly pass on anything I discover.

Nice DIY solution Andrew, thanks. I'm pretty handy and i could certainly manage that - though the finish might not be 100% and I've never done any cold blueing (think Birchwood Casey make this stuff?). I like the idea of a ready made product, perhaps in s/steel...

midway sell stainles steel studs ,if you have access to a lathe turn them down ,round them so thier flush and polish with fine git paper ,not every 1 has a lathe but you could cut and grind them ,or file then spin them in a drill and polish with fine grit paper ,would give the same effect ,a lot of work if you have the time but it would make them look pretty
